Just got my renewal last week...they are hammering us. No surprise considering how many roofs the insurance companies have replaced in North Texas the last 5 years.

Don't let anyone trick you into a 2% deductible. State Farm will not sell 1% deductible in my area. I just renewed my homeowners. I'm paying Round $800 for every $100,000 insured. Here is my independent agent. Scott put me with Allied. Rates differ for different areas.

We have USAA and they have been reasonable. Only thing I did not like about them and I heard most insurance companies did it also, they had switched are deductible from 1% to 2% it was buried down in small font on like page 18 of 35 pages, we did not realize it until the last hail storm hit a about 2 years ago

I hate homeowner's insurance with a purple passion. I figure you can make one big claim in your life, i.e. it burns to the ground or a tornado takes it, then you're done with any premium that resembles fair. Folks that try to make small claims are shooting themselves in the foot.

You are mostly insuring your roof. My last and only claim was a little more than a roof but I did manage to get a new roof from it.

Talked with my insurance guy this morning and he stated the rate hikes are to cover the hurricane damage around the coast and Houston. Looks like they will be with us for a while.

Just paid $2800 Went up $400 Good times Isn't that cute. I had some sort of "rate lock" that expired is what I was told when I called Geico to inquire why *mine doubled*! They tried to explain that it had something to do with my insurance company switching from ASI (or Lloyd's of London???) to some other company mid-year. The explanation was that I didn't have a rate increase last year like everybody else so my increase really just gets to me to the same level that everybody else is at. Didn't really make much sense but I read dollar signs. Gathering quotes.
My botnet is bigger than yours.

Pro - tip do not be overinsured Best tip of the day. Your deductible goes up as your insured amount goes up. You are actually more for less.

Bill, if you paying $4500/year for your house, you paying way too much. Are you neighbors gold coins in your policy?

Bill, if you paying $4500/year for your house, you paying way too much. Are you neighbors gold coins in your policy? I'm paying around $2,400 each year for $300,000, with a 1% deductible. I had to fight to keep the price down as Ramsey posted. I'm surprised that this thread has gone this long. Most people don't pay that much attention while their escrow is paying. Some get refunds from their escrow and think its their lucky day. I woke up when I paid off my house. I started shopping for homeowners insurance and protesting my property taxes.
