The taxi mounts got me to thinking. Not sure how many firearms you have. What will happen to them once your 6 feet under? I have 3 I want to make sure my kids get. Two are rifles my dad purchased for me and the other is my service handgun. The others they can do as needed. You??

Mine will get passed down for the most part. It is/will be spelled out long before I'm gone so there is no confusion or argument over them once I'm gone.

I've already started giving mine away. I've given two to THFers, and two to a nephew.

I started letting a bunch of safe queens go a few years ago. That got rid of about 15 or so. Still have over 20 and have 5 or 6 I am thinking about letting go. I have a 1969 F-250 I inherited from my grandfather that I'll put the $$$ from some gun sales into.

I don't have a huge firearm collection so it won't be difficult to liquidate. I'm left handed so that takes leaving the rifles to my kids out of the equation (unless my daughter decides she wants to shoot left handed, still too early to tell).
Kinda sad, as I've had some of the guns for quite awhile.
I'll leave them my shotguns to do with what they want. The rifles they can keep what they want and sell the rest. I've thought about being buried with my .270.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I don't have a large or valuable brace of firearms. Just what I've needed for the hunting I do and a few passed down from my dad, only one of which has sentimental value and all of which can only be described as utilitarian. As of now they'll be left to my son. Soon enough they'll need to be parceled out to son and grandchildren depending on which they spent the most time learning on or what suits them most. I feel extremely blessed that most of them enjoy shooting so maybe they will appreciate them despite their lack of resale value.

If I live a normal lifespan I’ll probably sell most of my collection when I am old. Certain ones will never be sold and will go to kids/grandkids. If I go earlier than anticipated it’s all spelled out in my will - including how and whom to use in selling them.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I have several handguns that belonged to friends and family in Law Enforcement these are my most treasured. I think when the time comes I'll put them back in the families where they belong, that's what they would want.

I will never sell another firearm. I will pass them to my kids, lots came from my dad, some from my grandfathers.

Step daughter and wife have no interest. I told them to sell for cash. They have a spread sheet with recommendations. I won't care at that point.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

I've bought a lot of guns over the years and inherited even more than I purchased. For me I've learned to appreciate guns I can use in the field without worrying about scratches etc. I like guns I own not the other way around. I've gotten rid of most of them only own about 10 now. And none of them own me, I have no safe queens in my safe, just some hard hittin working guns that no duck or deer wants anything to do with. With my guns, my misses even kill. I don't worry about what will happen to mine once I'm gone. Whether or not anyone I pass them down to sells them or keeps them for sentimental value I don't concern myself with.

This thread has me thinking. Guess I need to have a discussion with the wife. Kids and grandkids have no use for my guns.

This thread has me thinking. Guess I need to have a discussion with the wife. Kids and grandkids have no use for my guns. I'd recommend- if you don't already have- an itemized inventory with serial numbers, comments about accessories, etc. and an estimated street value for each. Over the years I've seen quite a few spouses/offspring get fleeced by supposed trusted friends or family. And if you have someone outside the family you trust to help with the disposition (if any) make sure you've named them in the will or somewhere.

All my guns have the serial numbers jotted down with one of my three kids names beside it.
Some guns have the kids names engraved in the action or barrel

My son doesn't hunt. I do have a couple of close friends with grandkids I may give them to.

My two nieces and their husbands and my nephew will get all mine.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

I would intend to leave them to my children. If they want them I will talk between the two of them and try to make them as happy as possible and state who gets what in the will.
My grandfather died without stuff like that stated in his will. A few months before he passed he gave all of his guns to my brother and I and said he wanted us to have them. We told him he might need them to hang on to them. He passed away shortly after and what do you know all of his kids families drew sticks to pick a gun in order and we got the short stick and picked last. Eats me up to this day. His deer rifle has been refinished and blued they tossed the old 6x scope and put a new hubble on it etc. Just makes my blood boil.
It's hell eatin em live

A few years ago, my dad gave me my Grandfather's service revolver. A S&W J frame, along with the holster that he wor!. It's a really neat piece! I am sure all of my firearms will go to my son...but I hopefully am a long ways away from having to worry about that!
