I was thinking about buying a dog box with storage, was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the style that has the storage below the dog boxes, like does water get in the storage compartments in bad weather or cleaning out the dog compartments.

Thank you

It’s not water getting into the storage that bothers me. If you have dogs pee in the box its all over everything in the bottom storage box. Don’t leave your sweatshirt in there over night.

I had a custom deerskin dog box and storage box built that was designed this way. It was two piece system with a storage box on the bottom that was long enough for shotguns and other gear, and a the dog box mounted on top of the storage box. It was nice that way so if you wanted to move the dog inside out of the weather but still wanted them in a kennel. The box locked so you could leave your gear in it without worrying about it getting stolen.

As far as water getting in, I never really had this problem as the box was designed a certain way and I drilled drain holes so I could clean it out with a water hose and it would drain. But water never go it in it due to rain or anything like that. Contact Deerskin they can build anything you can think up.

If the welding is good there should be no problem with dogs above.

I had one for years with storage on top.
Worked great. Weather sealed and lockable.
Alum-Line brand.

Take a look at the Decked platform with drawers for storage (www.decked.com). Though I have a deerskin box on top of mine, you can put just about any kennel and even an ATV on top of it. Also, your gear stays dry. I am on my second unit in just as many trucks and love it.
