We all know the type. The feeders that are a tube, into a joint and mounted up right on a tree.. Deer stick their noses into eat the corn. I keep looking at them and thinking that they would be emptied in about 10 minutes by a couple of coons.

Is there something I am missing? Is there a way that coons are being kept off?

I think they're like turkey feeders put up on a pole and a platform - filled once and forgotten about.

The ones I've put out in E Texas were not messed with by coons when they are filled with protein ONLY

I gave up on those for corn or corn/roasted soybean mix because of the coons. Never tried'm with protein only.

If I filled a pipe with corn and fastened it to a tree it'd be empty in a day and then destroyed by pigs afterwards. I hang mine from tree limbs so they swing freely. Just an eye bolt in the cap and some wire. It doesn't stop the squirrels but it slows them down, and pigs don't seem able to molest it.
