I have a young Chesapeake bay ret. and am in the market for a good e collar. Hunt private and public. Looking for longevity, toughness, ease of operation and obviously waterproof. Will only need it to run one dog. Any first hand recommendations?

The best or the best for the money?
The two best are the Garmin Pro 550 and the Dogtra Edge RT.
I run a Dogtra 1900s. I think it's a great one dog collar.
Ive had it three years with no issues. I use it 3-4 days a week year around.
Battery life is outstanding.

Any first hand recommendations? That might be hard to find, because anyone that uses e-collar on a CBR gets their first hand bitten off.

For a retriever I’d recommend the Garmin pro 70. It’s simple to use. I’ve had one for 5 years with no problems and trained a lot of dogs with it. I upgraded to the 550 with gps this year for my bird dogs but I’m training my lab pup with the 70 and still use it around the house on them all. It also serves as a bark collar. Very simple to use.

My wife is a field trial person and has had many different brands over the years. For a one dog hunting collar she recommended
Dogtra 1900S 3/4 Mile Range 1 Dog Training Collar System
I got mine from Amazon

I have the "Tri-Tronics SPORT PRO", really good for hunting, wish I had more levels than 10 for early training. https://www.gundogsupply.com/garmin...8K2soLhB8oqVcRb1ngvC03ewKJcaAhknEALw_wcB

There is a guide not to far west that had one of the "sweetest and mellow CBR" that bite many of hands petting him when he was standing by their side... on a serious note I have used Dogtra for years w out issues...

I left the collars in my mule dog box and drove my truck down to the gate to get a buddy. I still had the remote on. I looked at it and it showed the collar at 3.6 miles.

I bought the Garmin/Tri-Tronics sport pro this year for my Boykin and it has worked great for me. Lots of features and super easy to use. Plus, a lot of companies have a corporate sponsorship with Garmin so you can get 30% off https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/140332

The LED light on the collar is way more handy than you might think if you duck hunt or walk at night. Easy to keep up with the dog in the dark. I had the previous generation model for my old Brittany and it lasted 10+ years on same batteries. I haven't used a Dogtra but I'm sure they are similar based on what I've seen and heard.

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

The new Garmin is a crapola POS!!!!!
In an apparent attempt to fix the problem of the plastic breaking where the collar goes through the loop on the receiver, they added more plastic and reduced the collar size from 3//4 to 1/2. I have 10 year old Tritronic collars that are stlll holding up. The Garmin straps didnt last one season. I called the rep and that was a disaster. Pretty much blamed me and offered to send out two more crap straps. I dont need these flimsy pieces of junk tat I know won't make another season. Garmin can keep their junk!

see my thread in gundog section. I have a 10 month old chessie and just switched to the garmin pro 550.
He also is super sweet to everybody he meets... kinda labby acting might have to take him back.
Where'd you get your pup?

Where'd you get your pup? He came from a line of CBR's raised by McLauchlin out of Decatur.
