when do your deer in South Texas have most of their horns shed? Mid March?

I'm not gonna waste time looking until mid April. I saw 3 bucks very interested in what looked like a yearling doe last weekend and numerous still clean and active scapes.

Down in Webb County we start looking in earnest in mid-March on through April. Have one really old buck on camera that has already shed. Everyone else still has their headgear.

In many parts of South Texas it is best to look after April 7-10 IME. Most of the deer will loose their antlers around those dates. The problem in South Texas is a wet year like this one the vegetation will be to tall to find many once they start to drop. A few deer will start in mid March but most will not start to shed till first week of April. If the rattlesnakes are moving then it is time to start to look for sheds. I have also seen bucks chasing doe fawns in early March in La Salle County.

I've got a couple that have shed already. March is ideal before the growth gets too high.

I found a matching pair in my driveway not 20 feet from each other. I figure finding a match is dang rare, finding a matching pair at the same time is almost impossible. I’d better go play the lottery.[Linked Image]

Go shred some of the fields and areas that your target bucks hang out in, then go put a lot of corn out in those areas. With all the tall weeds/grass and possible spring rains, its going to be tough to find fresh sheds this year

Bought a new place last week on a few acres and this is my first game camera pic. Still carrying that bone. [Linked Image]

will be heading out to Ozona towards the end of next week to fill feeders ... might be a little early for shed hunting?

This was my haul in Williamson Co., four matched sets for the first time ever (prior to this I'd only found one matched set over years of shed hunting), but not the sheds from the two big bucks that live in the area (Big Eight and Ten Plus Kicker). I'm sure *everyone* in this area is looking for those! smile

Several weeks early for Val Verde and surrounding from my experience

I don't make a point of shed hunting. But have found a few sticking out of the tires of my four-wheeler.

yep, I don't go hiking all over the place either looking, but usually around my feed pens and known fence crossings. I also got one in my truck tire last year backing up to a feed pen and happen to see it in my rear view mirror
