Ben (Pig_Popper) and I bought a bunch of Wolf Military Classic FMJ 100 gr. ammo and in response to viewer's request, thought we would tried to take some hogs with it. The question isn't whether or not it will kill, but how accurate it will be and what it will do to the hog in terms of terminal ballistics. Turned out, the round was more accurate from my 16" barrel than from Ben's 18" barrel, but was certainly accurate enough for our intended hunting distances which were inside 150 yards. We did not get any chrono data on the ammo when we zeroed, but Ben got chrono data previously on his 18" Grendel of 2550 fps. So I figure for my 16" Grendel, that would mean about 2500 fps.

So, aside from the range test, we got settled into a box stand and waited. There were fresh hog tracks on the property, so it was just a matter as to when the hog(s) would show itself. Very soon after getting into the stand, we had a small invasion of wild turkeys that was really cool to watch on thermal.

Then we had several hours of waiting for the hog to show, and it eventually did show right at 10:00 pm.

As explained in the video, we had a plan for shooting the hog that we executed. The bullets performed alright. Ben's bullet hit the humerus and so the critical chest data I was hoping to get was somewhat compromised. In a previous video seen on YouTube (2nd video), the guy talked about how the yawing action of the Wolf creates this tremendous temporary wound cavity that while inferior to damage and permanent wound cavities by properly expanding ammo, was still impressive. I think hitting that big bone took away our chance to analyze that aspect.

My shot was to be in a completely different area of the hog, the hind end. The bullet entered the side forward of the hip and exited out the opposite hip, apparently yawed and without hitting any bone. However, we weren't going to do a temp wound cavity analysis of intestinal damage. I will say this, the tissue damage around the entry and exit wounds was NOT impressive. The exit wound itself (under the skin, in the muscle) looked more like a stab wound from a Bowie knife-sized blade with ~1.3" long and very narrow permanent wound.

Here is the video. You can see the results...

2nd video showing performance in ballistic gel...
