Anyone interested in going to this? Working on getting a group of hunters together for dinner/drinks beforehand and should be a great time hearing and telling hunting stories.

I was toying with the idea of going to the one in Dallas. But I thought about it, why would I pay to go listen to someone speak who is always bashing Texas and Texas hunters.

Explain that. I watch him all the time and listen to his pod casts. Just cause he doesn't hunt Texas, is from Texas etc doesn't mean much. I am open to what you have to say.

I like the guy. He isn't about the horns etc. His style is not like ours as hunting feeders etc. then again he doesn't live here so I can deal with that. His hunts are public land which we don't have in Texas.

He can't possibly have anything to say that I'd pay that kind of money to hear. No offense to the guy, as I kind of like his show.

He constantly, on his pod casts, makes derogatory comments about how little public land there is in Texas. He also has referred to Texas hunters as lazy for hunting over feeders out of blinds.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoy the show and really enjoy his podcasts but it seems like he is always using making fun of us. He kinda did a half way apologist on his last podcast for his comments on Texas, but it felt kinda forced to me.

Our style of hunting would be completely foreign to him but I know he has come to Texas and hunted so I am sure his thought process has changed some. It is hard for other hunters to understand the Texas landscape, lack of public hunting land available, and the extreme hunting pressure. Plus, until you hunt over a feeder in the Post Oak Savannah region you would think it is unfair. Until you realize all the food sources that our deer have. It is no different than hunting in the midwest over a standing crop. Western hunting is so different, it is another world. You have endless amounts of land to access. The land is so vast, that the main goal is to hike and get up high to scan over as many ridges as you can. Then move on to the next. In Texas, we mainly have to ambush hunt due to terrain and land availability.

I say, each to their own but you could always meet him and educate him. Plus, this is just a fun event to meet other thf members, more so than hearing Steve. Main reason, I posted this is to find other hunters to befriend. Get a good dinner and a few drinks while bs about hunting stories or talking about upcoming hunting trips.

I like Steve, I listen to his podcast and love his show.

I personally have not listened to an episode where he was bashing Texas hunters, but if feeder style hunting isn't his bag, so be it. I will admit that western style of hunting is more my thing as well. However, lots of states allow feeders, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Maryland, New Jersey, etc.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Same here, I have no desire to meet him or pay money to listen to him. It sounds like he is all about promoting himself and his show....just more business related.

Well back to original INVITE. Those members on here that would like to meet for dinner/drinks and go to the Meat Eater show on Feb. 27th 8pm in Houston send me a PM. Those that want to gripe about a guy making money in the outdoor industry that promotes public land and does way more for conservation than most can keep their unhappiness to themselves... or not. At least, he isn't filming a show under false pretenses like the vast majority of TV Hunting Shows, where the 'free range' big buck is somehow killed on the last evening hunt every show

So far their are 3 of us going. I just purchased tickets and bought 1 extra. If someone wants to go, first person to message me gets the ticket. Otherwise, we can meet up at a restaurant for dinner before

I'll be there. My buddy is a big fan of his books and got me into the show. When I told him about it, he said we should go check it out. Curious to see what the event will be like. I'll be (shamelessly) wearing a Map My Ranch shirt. Got a short time window, so probably no food or drinks before/after, but if you see me in the lobby, I always like to meet THF folks in person, so come say hello.

That was a really cool event! For those of you that might be in cities where this tour is coming through, I highly suggest checking it out. The guys were funny, entertinaing, and really gave you an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes of the show. Met a lot of people there that are getting into hunting because they watched Meat Eater. Say whatever you want about them, but they are putting together a show about ethical hunting, expanding the hunting audience and outdoor lifestyle, and they get to do what many of us would love to do for a living. I respect them and appreciate their work and presentation even more so. Not your bag? All good. But if you are interested, I'd suggest buying a ticket and checking out the next show near you.

Yea I was there too. They were honestly really funny as well. It was almost a stand up comedy about the behind the scenes for the show. I kind of wished it was for one of the podcasts so I could have seen first hand their more meatier (pun intended) or serious content, but I was more than happy with the evening. I can definitely confirm these guys dont have a bunch of filtered or heavily edited content for their podcasts as they are just as well spoken in person and live as they are on their shows.

Giong to see him with the Pops at the Majestic theater this evening. Believe it's a Podcast one.

Pretty pumped!

Did they still give away a pair of the Vortex Binos at the "behind the scenes" one there in Houston?

You'll have a fun time! There was a meet and greet/book signing pre-event thing that happened before the show. Wasn't there for that, so not sure. During the 8-10pm event, there wasn't any give-a-ways. Signed cookbooks sold out before the show. If you want one, you can get at the merch booth, but be quick on that.
