My all time favorite rifle for whitetails is my Sako .270 Finnbear with Bofors Steel barrel. It is one of the great ones from the 1960's, and those are hard to find these days. Here is one like mine for sale; if I didn't already own the one I've got I'd buy this one https://www.sakosource.com/-1569rs-270bofors.html

Sako Finnbear Deluxe 30.06. First rifle I bought '83 and still my go to for WT. It is a beautiful but has some battle scar memories that I'll never forget so I have not repaired. Have a CTR that is awesome but just not the same.

I have two Sakos the first is an L579 243 I inherited from my father (1970 model) I managed to break the stock while pouring corn out of the bag by my stand. It was one of those foggy mornings and I couldn't help but look left and right thinking this was as good as it gets! The bag was bouncing against my leg and I kicked an embedded rock and headed for a face plant when I couldn't raise my leg fast enough, so I instinctively rolled over like I was water skiing and it broke! I found a new (old) stock for it and used it for several years in Llano. I managed to shoot my two best bucks in 43 years in Llano with that rifle, a 10 point and 13 point, both just short of 140" in the next couple of years. Also another 10 and 8 point that was better than most deer over the years at that lease.

I then acquired a used Model 75 270 after starting a new lease in Breckenridge. I shot a very nice very tall 8 point buck my first year there that I never measured because 3 tines had been broken off!

These rifles mean the world to me because of the family tradition.

We hunt with two that my Uncle brought back from West Germany in 1969. Both Pre-Garcia Sako L61 Finnbears. One is .270 and the other is 30-06. Every season my son and I take to the field with them. Before I die I will see a 4th generation hunt with them. They will never leave the family, always to be passed down from Father to son or daughter.

I've got an l61 that's the only rifle that's really been out of the safe in the 4-5 years since I bought it.

I gave my son an L61R Deluxe .30-06 when he was 15 and he has hunted with virtually nothing else since. He's taken big game not just in Texas with it but in the Rocky Mountains and Africa as well. So when his two sons (my grandsons) got big enough I got Rodger at SakoSource.com to find two Deluxe .30-06's identical to my son's which I gave the boys for Christmas. The older one has taken deer, hogs, and coyotes with his. But the younger one has fired only five shots with his (other than three shots to zero it), resulting in two hogs, two turkeys, and a buck.

Sako is is the best kept secret - Tikka T3 lite in.308, Tikka CTR in 6.5CM and Sako 85 Black in .270, recently sold an 85 Finnlite in 7mm-08. All great guns, smooth actions and great shooters, the .270 is my current go to gun what a bargain from Euro Optics!
