For those of you trapping hogs, what kind of gun are you using to dispatch em?

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

It depends. If I've got a bunch of adult hogs, I like to stay back 50-60 yards and pick 'em off. When there's more than 10 or so, they seem to go absolutely crazy if I approach the trap too closely and they'll start climbing up the walls of the trap and on top of each other to try to get away. If there's just a couple I'll either use my 45ACP or my Judge with 45 Colts loaded up. Since I also have my KelTec PMR 30 with me, I'll sometimes finish a couple off who are down for the count but still kicking a bit. Earhole or eyehole is the target spot of choice with any firearm.

Friends always ask why I carry a 22 pistol, just habit from trapping. Most of the time a Ruger MK III but any accurate pistol will do. Shoot between the eyes and up about 4". Trapped hogs will get crazy at first but they calm down pretty good after you stand next to them for a bit for a clean shot opportunity.

I've shot them with all kinds of calibers over the years. Nowdays, I carry a 9mm more than others to dispatch them in the traps. Usually a Hi Power or Sig 226.

Heritage RR in .22 Magnum. I only use .22 Magnum because that is what I enjoy shooting out of that revolver and the cylinder I have in it. I do klnow one crazy arsed RN from East Texas who sets tear drop traps. He just climbs in there with a breaking knife and starts grabbing ears and cutting throats.

We had a father and son with us when we caught 5 pigs in a trap one day. They had a 9mm (generally a great pig killer). Having never really shot anything with their nice shiny gun, we let them have first go at the pigs. Each shot a pig, it took a couple of shots each, dang rookies. My daughter hopped out with her SR22. They freaked and ran behind the Ranger, one said "a 22 will bounce right off their heads!" My daughter looked at them and never said a word; then bamm, bamm, bamm, and she had three dead pigs.
I do like my wife's 10/22 as I don't really have to aim, just look down the barrel.

I usually use one of the 22 pistols either the Bearcat or Colt Challenger, sometimes the SIG Hammerelli trailside but almost always one of the 22s. In the Bearcat I have used 22 Shorts, still killed them with one shot each
