Hi all... does anyone have any suggestions on what is the best seed to plant for spring food plots in East Texas (Rains County)?

beans and peas.

100lb oats & 50lbs Austrian winter peas per acre planted September 15. Add 150lbs of 13-13-13 and you got yourself
a nice plot. One of my plots in Cass country. Wife plowing and one month later.

There is so much coming up naturally everywhere that I just let my food plot go. This is when the clover seems to attract them the most. In a few months, I'll spread fertilizer and disk it all in for the summer. Better to keep the corn in the feeder then trying to get them to come around to a food plot.

Iron & Clay Cowpeas planted in mid April will produce forage till a frost kills it and the deer will still be eating the plants. May take a while for the deer tp realize what it is. I did not have a lot of deer hitting my first year plot till late in the summer ( Aug. & Sept) but the second year was entirely different. Deer was on it when the sprigs popped thru the ground. The cowpeas are very drought tolerant.
