This is my first post on here, but I hope it might help someone out. I booked a whitetail hunt after seeing a special on Craigslist. It was 1200 + 200 per day guide fee/ lunch, for a whitetail up to 129, and was only 45 minutes from my house!! I couldn’t pass that up.. I made the mistake, tho, of booking this before reading reviews. After sending my deposit in and visiting with the owner over the phone, who seemed like a sweet lady, I then did some research. After reading mixed reviews, I became extremely nervous and apprehensive about the trip. Did I just get taken?? Was this sweet lady on the phone a con artist?? Their FB page and website seemed somewhat outdated and vague!! But I already paid over $800 so I went and hoped for the best!! While I learned my lesson on researching before going on a hunt due to several nights of worrying and stressing, here is my review!! Barbra was a first class lady who treated me like a son from the first time I talked to her on the phone, til the moment she hugged me before I left. My guide Josh, worked his tail off for me all day long!! The other two guides who were assisting hog hunters even helped for about 4 hours after their 5 hunters had each killed two hogs each by 11:00 Sat morning. They arrived Friday night and a few hunted over kill lights that night. I saw the dead hogs, most weighed over 150 with the ones that didn’t being shot for better eating. They got me a couple shot opportunities on my buck, I messed up the first time. I didn’t want to shoot something bigger than the 129, and hesitated trying to judge him. The second opportunity I had, I knew I had the right one. It was right before dark, and as I was drawing down on him, he took of on a sprint!! I took a shot at him, on a dead run, at about 80 yards and hit him. However, even tho we found substantial blood, the deer hasn’t been recovered. I know I probably should not have taken that shot, and that’s really something I don’t want to debate, because I have weighed the decision out in my head over and over and and will decide what I will do in that situation should it be presented in the future. We decided to look for him again this morning, but rains coming thru last night pretty much wiped out the blood trail we were following last night. They told me they will look for him this week, and I take them at their word. I guess what I would say is, these folks ran a very respectable business while I was there, and I will definitely be going back to hunt with them. Your prob not going to get a lot of questions answered by looking at their website or FB page, but a phone call to them will get you all the info you need. Also, while I never went into their lodge, it looked very nice and homey. I apologize my first post is so long, but reading yalls reviews in guides and outfitters have benifitted me in the past, and I would like to return the favor.
