Bump this up as application deadline is approaching. Lots of great elk hunting to be had for even the low PP folks.

We applied for cow/calf. Odds were 20% last year so we'll see. I'd be nice to match that with pronghorn. Good news is we'll know before the pronghorn draw closes.

I put in for the general tag. With 3 points I should be a shoe-in. Just trying to figure out the rest of my 11 states worth of applications now. Really waivering on whether I should pull my Utah General Mule Deer Tag for the muzzleloader season this year or wait and hunt rifle next year (but have to burn 4 "general" points, where I am 100% draw in 99% of the general seasons with 3).

Got my general tag. Probably be hunting the later part of the season unless I don’t draw something else for early October. In that case I might try one of the earlier units. If successful in the earlier season, might just pick up an OTC Colorado second rifle. Already just went points for general deer in Utah.

Well, Swing and miss on the cow/calf draw. We still have a pretty good chance for pronghorn but I was hoping to be able to match that with another hunt. Guess we can go harass rabbits or grouse. I'll have to learn what a sage grouse looks like at that season will be over before we get there. We may pair it with trout fishing. The good new is since we didn't draw, I have $ to put toward points for the general draw. In a few years we will be able to draw that one.

Definitely some good trout fishing to be had in Wyoming and in Colorado on the way there or back. A buddy and I hunted antelope around Buffalo last year. We’re goong to fish the Bighorns but a blizzard threw a wrench in that and we ended up fishing in Salida, CO on the way back. We went the last weekend of that hunt. I would suggest going as early as you can for antelope.

We usually go after the 15th of October for antelope. Will probably go that same time this year if we draw. The Platte isn't far from the unit we will be in so we may try there.

Fall spawning trout are beauties, browns and brookies. The Platte has great fishing, even down into Saratoga area. The mountain streams and lakes can have a bunch of different trout that get stocked at various times over the year.
We may have some leftover cow tags after the resident draw in June, check the list for the leftover draw after the resident draw.
Sage grouse season is in Sept. They are very easy to distinguish from other plains birds, big bombers and easy to hit, no dog needed.

Thanks. North of Saratoga is where we would likely trout fish. I looked at the leftover tags but didn't think about waiting until the resident draw was done. I will check again. If nothing else, we are thinking of going down to Colorado Unit 4 and brave the over the counter with the 1,000 other hunters after we get our pronghorn. If we do that I will likely just buy my son an any elk tag ($110 i think) and let him shoot the first opportunity. I haven't had elk in the freezer for eight years. Time to resupply.
Thanks for the help. Now waiting on the antelope draw...Good luck in the resident draw.

I'm probably another couple years out but I expect to be up there again. We may hunt OTC 2nd rifle as well in Colorado.
