For those of you who hunt with turrets that are not capped and do not lock in place, how often do you find that they move. After riding around on a four wheeler for a few days I noticed that my rings came loose. I am upgrading rings and have had a new scope on my mind for awhile. I will be upgrading both at the same time. I am just trying to decide between capped turrets or exposed turrets. All opinions are much appreciated.

The scope I had that had way too easy to move turrets, I got rod of, Vortex Viper PST.
Burris XTR II, you really have to mean to turn. NF ATACR, moves when you say so, don't when you don't. Bushnell ERS, two of them, lock in place, where you set them. SS 5-20, moves when you say so, don't when you don't.
All of them Mil turrets, Mil reticle, First Focal Plane.

Thanks Fireman, unfortunally I will not be spending that type of money on the scope. I was looking at the Athlon talos BTR 4-14. This meet your FFP and Mil/Mil requirements. I am going to be new to the mil and FFP world if I go this route.

I prefer turrets with a zero stop, whether MOA, MIL, yardage, or whatever.

I am going to be new to the mil and FFP world if I go this route. Just read reviews. I think they are doing pretty good for the money. There's two major things you need to verify, with a turreted scope. 1. Consistent tracking. When you dial up 1.8 to 2.2 Mil (depending on cartridge and bullet) for a 400 yard shot, does the turret do what you told it to every time. 2. Return to zero. Get it hitting as tight as you, the rifle, and ammo can at 100 yards, and zero the turret. When you dial a correction for a longer shot, then dial back to zero, do bullets go back to where they were, at 100 yards, once you come back to zero on the turret. 30 minutes at the range will tell you these things.

Take a peek at this review done on another forum. For the money that Talos BTR is a great scope. Be my pleasure to assist you with one Doug

Might be some scope to scope differences. My vortex the turrets don't go moving about unless your intentionally turning them.

hope this isn't too basic a question..... but are you actually dialing for elevation correction when you're out using your scope?
also, a good optics mounting system should not be underestimated. it's definitely worth spending some extra money on. what rifle is this going on?

I came VERY close to buying an Athalon Ares ETR for my new rifle, They are a BEST BUY IMO.

I don't believe I will use the turrets much out in the field but I would like to do some longer range shooting at some point. It will be going on a Remington 783 .308. I also have my eye on the Burris Four X that Doug posted on here yesterday. Decisions, decisions.

Those Burris Four X 3-12x56mm - 4 Illuminated have arrived. A couple of them came in as open boxed (I gather they were trade show display units) and if you want one of these at an extra 10% off, only $269.99, give a call, 516-217-1000, and speak with me or Neil
