I'm looking to get a rifle for coyotes, coons etc
I'm up in the air between three calibers
22mag, 17hmr or 22-250
My shooting range will be 100-150 yards
I would prefer a 22-250, but every one I have seen for sale people are very proud of them
Anyway, out of those three calibers, which do you experienceed yote hunters prefer?
I don't have unlimited funds, would like to keep rifle price under $500

you need to do research and talk to people in the know, the 22-250 is a great round, but most come with a slow twist, maybe you can live with that but most don't, I think Tikka has a model with 1-8 or 9 twist for reasonable price.

Ruger American Ranch Rifle in 5.56. Designed with the slower twist, and shoots 62 and 70 gr bullets for deer just great. It will shoot either 223 or 5.56, has a nice durable poly stock, takes Mag-Pull 10, 20 round magazines. Picitinny rail for ease of scope mounting.

I have this rifle, good gun for the money. Upgraded to a leupold scope, been happy with it.

Also have one of these. Came threaded and I run a surpressor on it.

Agree 100. Light and durable with a threaded barrel, and you can get one cheaper than new at a pawn shop.

Get a Ruger American Predator. I have four of them and they are all shooters. I mount the Trijicon 3-9x40 Accupoint scopes on them using the DNZ mounting system and you have a predator calling rig that cant be beat.
The newer models are threaded but if you want a coyote calling rifle, you don't want to ruin the ergonomics of the rifle by putting a can on the end of it. I have been calling coyotes for well over 50 years and still can't guarantee where a coyote is going to show up.
If you are going to sit in a high rack and call from a swivel chair at night, a suppressor is fine. My idea of calling coyotes is to call in the daylight and from the ground. Of course, I am old fashioned.
