It is time to start applying again for the 2019-20 big game season
Antelope New for this year the Rifle antelope hunts will be unit wide in the draw instead of being assigned to a ranch as it has been in the past. This will allow us to hunt areas with great trophy potential that we previously have not been able to hunt. If you’ve been considering an Antelope hunt this is the year to try to draw a tag. We have some good areas that we would expect to kill some above average bucks in with potential for bucks in excess of 80” All of the antelope hunts take place in August this year we can apply for Archery Rifle Muzzleloader It just depends on your preference with all of these being new hunts i don’t have a feel for what the draw odds may be
Mule deer I’m looking for hunters interested in Muzzleloader oct 19-23 this is the first gun hunt of the year and we have done extremely well on this hunt for bucks in the 140-180 class and i can typically draw everyone i apply success rates have been 80% with 100% shot opportunity
Archery I’m looking for a few more hunters for the January bow season 1-15 This is a great time to see a lot of bucks this hunt hits the rut we run around 50% success and have had 100% shot opportunity New for this year they split the archery tags up into September season and January season with less tags in January than in September. In the past you could hunt September and if unsuccessful you could hunt January most hunters just waited to hunt in January. This year with their should be significantly fewer hunters in January which should make for a better hunt.
Rifle I can take one to two more groups for rifle hunts in various units from Late October to mid November again we typically draw everyone we apply and run near 100% harvest success year end and year out.
Aoudad There are new hunts for Aoudad this year they split the tag numbers up over several seasons instead of just February. I’m looking to apply hunters for the October 12-16 and the December 7-20 hunts these are new hunt that I feel we can do very well on.
Oryx on and off range I’d like to apply hunters for the once in a lifetime on range hunts and or the off range hunts they added tags and hunts to the on range which may help the draw odds they also added some tags to the off range. We run 100% success on the on range hunts. The off range 7 out of 8 hunters were successful last year the draw odds for off range are much better than on range we normally draw 60-70%
Elk We hunt primarily units 34,36,37 these are great units with a high success rates. Draw odds are tough typically 10% or less but if you can draw you will have a great hunt. I’m applying hunters for archery September 1-14 or 15-24 Muzzleloader October 5-9 Rifle October 12-16 , 19-23 October 26-30
I offer 2 day guided only hunts for certain units and species mainly mule deer, antelope and Aoudad these are for the more do it yourself hunters that just need someone to show them where to start and take advantage of the increased draw odds by applying in the outfitter pool
*** for more info please call i won’t go into great detail about where we hunt online ***
All hunters must have a signed contract prior to applying in the outfitter pool with any outfitter in NM Deadline to apply is March 20th Draw results should be out by April 24th
Prices are on my website i am a licensed outfitter in the state of NM with all of the proper BLM , Forest Service and state trust land permits to conduct these hunts.

Anyone that’s interested in Antelope this is the year to apply NM changed it dramatically the good part is when we apply for a hunt we will be able to hunt all of the public land in that unit instead of being assigned to a ranch as we have in the past. Due to this we feel very confident that we can take you to areas with good numbers and or above average bucks. The bad part of it is they are allowing unlimited licenses on private property this won’t affect the hunts for this season but could have a big impact on quantity and quality in future years.
This is also the year for Aoudad in the past all of the tags have been issued for the month of February. This year the tags are being spread over several hunts in October December January and February. This will make for a much less crowded hunt and better time of the year to hunt especially the October and December hunts and even the January should be good. i believe we will find good rams with the herds that are hard to find in February
I’m still applying hunters for on and off range Oryx hunts
Elk applying hunters for units 34,36&37 archery, rifle& Muzzleloader
Mule deer I’ll apply a few more for the January archery hunt this is a fun hunt that hits the rut. We have a good success rate and great draw odds. I may be able to apply a few more for rifle or Mz in October or November we have an almost 100% success rate on these again with high draw odds
For more those seriously interested give me a call. I’ll need to talk to you to determine if these hunts will be right for you. Steve 575-706-1857 For prices and basic information you can go to my website southwesthunts.com

Less than two weeks left to apply
Still applying hunters for a variety of hunts.
I have room to apply one to two groups of up to 4 hunters for 2 day guided only mule deer hunts either rifle October 26-30 or archery January 1-15 draw odds for these hunts should be 100% in the outfitter pool and we have had very good harvest success on these hunts. After two days you may hunt on your own. These hunts are economically priced for those on a budget or just like a more do it yourself hunt. **Call for more details on areas we hunt and pricing. **
New for this their is a January 1-15 archery Aoudad season that coincides with archery mule deer season anyone interested in a possible combo hunt contact me. In the outfitter pool We should draw the deer tag for sure and i would expect the draw odds for archery Aoudad to be good as well. The archery Aoudad is a new season being offered this year so there’s no history to go off of to predict the odds
