For the past year or so I have been passively looking for a small game lease near DFW. I am mainly in it for squirrels and rabbits, but would like to be able to hunt other varmints as well. My question is does anyone know of leases like this? I have seen some day leases but I am looking for seasonal/year. I don't even know how much these types of leases go for, but any and all information would be much appreciated.

I have got permission to hunt squirrels by just driving around on kind of a day trip. Talk to landowners, be polite. Make sure you tell them you know the difference between a squirrel and the cattle that may be there. If he is listening real well might even mention cows don't climb trees. He might want you to use a 410 instead of your favorite 22 rifle. Before you leave thank him for his time as most ranchers and farmers are quite busy. After being told no I left my number with a guy that had a lot of timber and big oak trees. I told him thanks for his time and offered to patch fence for him or drive his tractor mowing weeds. Bout two months later he said his pecan bottom was taking a hit from the squirrels Wound up getting several off his place. Even got invited to deer hunt over his watermelon patch that fall. I also offered to skin and share some of the harvest but he said his wife wouldn't cook it.

This is very good advise. There is quite a bit of public land around DFW you just have to look for it. If you are truly interested in rabbits and squirrels, most guys are not. Most of the public land hunters are there for deer, ducks, dove and pigs.
