Looking for a scope on my new bench 308, was looking around the 500$ mark but was advised to get into an ss fixed 10 or 12 and save up for nicer glass down the road. That being said, at the 299 mark the swfa's are going for , how does this compare? Thanks for any imput

I’m not familiar with that scope at all but that’s a lot of mechanics to get right for $259. Maybe they did. What I do know is the fixed SS is one of the best scopes you can buy mechanically in that price range. The glass isn’t great. I will also say that Burris has impressed me with what you get for the price.

I think that is a great deal. I would want it for a rifle I wanted to hunt with as well. Light weight and not a huge bell on the end. IMO this is for a hybrid or hunting rifle that doesn't want all the weight you take on with scopes you can dial elevation and windage. A lot of scope for the money but if you want to dial and hold this is not the scope for you IMO.

They make a 10x fixed-power SWFA model with HD glass. I'd be willing to bet that thing is awesome.

Speaking of which the last two times I looked all of the HD models are on backorder. The last time two days ago. I hope they’re not making any dramatic changes to the line.

Weird

There is a 10x HD on sale on snipers hide right now. I think he's asking too much, but you might be able to talk him down since it's been listed awhile now.

The burris is a better scope than the SS. That particular one is discontinued, and clearly on a very closeout price... it was 400 plus last year. Plus Burris has a great warranty, that we have NEVER had to use.... year 33 in business...

I bought the scope in question before Christmas. I used a wheeler engineering F.A.T. Wrench for my mounts. Tried to mount it on my 6.5 Creedmoor and used 25 in lbs to torque the rings down. It bent the tube. I didn’t realize it at the time and could not get it zeroed. I then put it onto my one of my AR15s in a cantilever Mount and noticed the tube was bent from the rings. It would not hold zero and I sent it back. What I mean by not holding zero is one shot would be on paper at 50 yards and the next 3 wouldn’t even hit the cardboard.

I’ve always tightened down my scope rings to 25 in lbs and that has never happened to me before. Needless to say, I didn’t buy another Burris. Which actually makes me sad because the glass was extremely nice for a $250 scope.

What exactly is a "bench 308" built for?
Sorry, i'm just trying to picture what the bench part would mean. If it's what I think it is then would you want something more like the fixed 20x?

I'd buy an SWFA 12x or 16x until I could afford something with good tracking and better glass.

Torquing the rings was good, but did you check your lower ring alignment before mounting?

I’ll give you $20 for it as is.

Did you send it back to Burris for warranty? I’ve got a MTAC 1-4 that I’ve beet the snot out of in 3 gun and it’s just fine. In fact it’s mounted on a .308 now.

I have had to send a FF3 in that had a cracked emmitor lense. I think as soon as mine got to the warranty department they had a brand new one in the mail.

Pulled the trigger on a scope this morning, took lots of good advice and got a budget optic and am saving for a nicer piece down the line. I did go ahead and get some nicer rings though.

https://www.natchezss.com/burris-mtac-rifle-scope-4-5x14x42mm-pa-g2b-mil-dot-matte.html

They were having a 10% off sale so got it all shipped for under 350.

The issue had nothing to do with alignment. There was a complete circle indented into the top and bottom of the tube from the rings. I was tightening down the rings and I remember thinking to myself, "I can't believe how much I have to keep turning to get the torque to 25 in lbs." I'm saying the metal was so soft on the tube that it bent from 25 in lbs of torque from the rings.

I also mounted it with an AR15 one piece scope mount onto my AR after I took it off just to make sure something wasn't wrong with the gun/rings I had it on first.

I have mounted hundreds of scopes in my life and I have never had this happen before. I worked in a gunstore for almost 3 years when I was in college. Something was wrong with this scope.

I don't have the scope anymore. I sent it back to Natchezss. Their customer service is awesome by the way! I would recommend them for any purchase you make.
