Anyone heard of these or used them in free choice feeders?

I have not heard of cotton seed "pellets". Only meal and then the bulk cottonseed. You def. can't feed the bulk cottonseed in the same free choice feeders you do with protein pellets. Also, the research I've done the bulk cottonseed can run anywhere from 20% - 40% protein.

We fed cottonseed cubes to cattle all the time; the ones we fed were likely too large to feed well in a feeder. If they make a small one it should work okay. My concern would be that 40% is HOT; unless they know to eat a limited amount it will really light them up.

Are the pellets made with 40% cottonseed or are the pellets 40% protein?

You may be talking about Double Down Deer feed, of which I'm not a fan. Neither were our deer when we tried feeding it.

The way they had it listed on their board was Cottonseed pellets 40% protein. These pellets are 3/16” just like my horse feed. I just went and looked at the bag for an analysis tag and there isn’t one on the bag. It’s just a brown paper bag. I’ll try to get by there in the next couple days and get a tag off one of the bags and post it for y’all to see. I mixed it 50/50 with corn to get them started on it so we shall find out. I tried the Record Rack 20% pellets 2 yrs ago with no luck. I kept them out for 6-8 months and they never really took to them.

I would not use them for deer due to the very high protein %, low fiber and no minerals. It specifically states on the feeding instructions:"Hand feed to beef cattle on pasture. Feed 1 to 4 lbs. per head per day according to stage of lactation and body condition to supplement available forage". The 3 red highlights are the keys to why they are not fed to deer. 1 to 4 lbs. per head per day is for a cow/bull weighing 900 to 2000 lbs. You would be feeding it to a deer that weighs 90 to 230 lbs live weight. At 1 to 4 lbs per day you would be feeding 10x the amount they should get if you hand fed. Like stated above it would be to "hot" IMO. It could cause serious rumen issues and/or foundering if not limited IMO. It also lacks minerals, trace minerals and vitamins which are all key to body health and as if not more important as the protein value in deer protein feeds.
