I got to wondering about how the ducks spread across the state during the migration and wanted to get everyone to list what county they hunt in and what duck they saw most this season. For me, it was wood ducks and bw teal in Waller county, and hands down wood ducks in Cass county.

Somewhere around clay, archer or Wichita. Probably a break even between widgeon, gw and mallard. Last year was greys and widgeon.

My group killed over 50% ringneck this year in DFW area. Hunting tanks mostly.

Usually it’s widgeon, gadwall, Mallard, ring necks pretty much in that order.

This year
Gadwall, gadwall, gadwall,gadwall, mallard

Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

I saw a mix of everything between West central Tx and Sulphur Springs and up into Ok. The most definitive difference from last year was I saw way fewer gadwall this year.

Shot more widgeon this year than any other bird and saw more than I’ve ever seen. Usually it’s gadwall and ringnecks. Didn’t see many gadwalls at all and didn’t see nearly the amount of ringnecks I usually do.

Wise county.

I ran across the Texas Waterfowl Strategic Plan while looking for where the texas duck stamp fund goes. At the end of this document are graphs by year, species, and region of Texas for duck population surveys done from 1997 to 2011.

Fannin Co. Nearly all GWT - 10X all others. Ringnecks a distant 2nd, a handful of gadwall, and a couple mallards. One pintail, a few snows and a few Canadas.

Montague is usually gads, mallards, teal and pintails. This year a few teal and pintails but saw a lot of ringnecks. Oh and the always loved cormorant!

We shot a bunch of bluebills this year. i can't remember shooting more than one or two in a season. On 2 hunts we killed 12, one in Montgomery County we killed 5, and another in Matagorda County we killed 7.
