Had an amazing american sportsman moment this morning. One point, four birds down, in two shots. Dash the wonder dog retrieved them all at once. He could only fit three in his mouth so he flipped one up onto his head. With perfect balance all four retrieved to hand at once. Dash has skills y'all. Seriously it was a much tougher and normal Snipe hunting day. Only two of the 8 were pointed birds. They were flushing wild and far. I had to make an adjustment from #7 steel to #6 Bismuth and made some good shots that had 7 down by 10am. But it took two more hours for me to just find bird #8 to shoot. It was like all Snipe left the entire area by late morning. A fun exercise filled day.

Tuesday when I went snipe hunting I limited out early. Today was a tall tale, but Tuesday was real. From one point, I shot 6 birds in 6 shots. They just kept coming up one or two at a time from a small area in front of that point. I had to break Dash off the first retrieve to go chase a cripple, which he did as if he knew what I told him, then he went back for the first bird and retrieved the other four one after another as if he had marked all of them. Though most had fallen into water which I am sure helped. It was way cool. Tuesday I finished so early I was able to take Dash to another area for some rabbit/squirrel hunting that yes he did enjoy a lot more than I did. Dash must have expected that today. He did not want to go home and started crying once he realized we were on the highway.

Greatness. Only seen one snipe point in all my years of quail hunting in snipe country.

Today I saw a single bird fly in from nowhere and land a good ways from us on an area we had already covered. I backtracked to it and sent Dash on. Dash covered the area and the bird was just not there. I figured it must have flown off low and did not see it. I turned and started back to where we left off. Dash caught up to me and was trotting along maybe 10 ft to my side. He suddenly snapped into a stone pretzel point. By instinct without thinking I already had the gun to my shoulder when that bird flushed not 5 ft beside me. A perfect going away shot and easy mark for Dash. May not seem like much to most, but I know you understand how just that one point in time like that can make the whole day.

That is a fun hunt. I was going to PM you because the snipe have migrated into my area recently.
