Another thread got me to thinking about a booster seat for my oldest boy. He'll be 3 in April and hope to take him a few times next year. I took him hunting once this past season and he lasted about an hour in the stand before he was done, which was longer than I was expecting. We mainly have office chairs in our blinds, and I ended up just rolling my jacket up for him to sit on this last go around, but it didn't last very long that way.

What are yall using for a booster seat for the little ones?

Go to a resale shop and pick up a bar stool. It will give him a little more height to see out the windows. I found one that swiveled and had a back rest on it. And when the kid is not with you you can put it in a corner and use it for a shelf/table.

This is what I did.

Great question for TXSHNTR, what do you use Dave?

My daughter I cut a bar stool down easier to carry.

A booster seat-literally for office chairs. I have a tower stand with two booster chairs in it at all times.

I would just take the one from the car.. The kind they use when they just use the regular seat belt so he isn't old enough for that yet but it is cheap and light. There is no back on it. Heck, my buddy made the window too high in one blind. I have to sit on 3 outdoor cushions to see out. hammer

I have a couple patio chair pads from academy for my son, they seem to work well in an office chair. If you go the bar stool, route, definitely get one that has a back rest. He won't last long supporting himself and will be in your lap soon.

I’d leave him at home with his mother. It’s not much fun hunting with a three year old.

Aint nothing better than hunting with your kids. Mine went before he was 3. Shot a deer with him on 2 hunts each this year and a hog and a deer last year, he has a blast.

Mine sits on my lap... or his mothers since she come sometimes too. He also has an old office chair he sits in and when stuff comes out he can stand in it and look out the window.

Some the most fun hunting I’ve had is with a 3 year. Whole new world for them. My wife and I switch with whom she would hunt with, sone times all three of us would hunt together.

I’ll never forget my daughter out of no where trying to bugle in a upper 40’s 8pt closer for my wife. She about gave me a heart attack. Pretty spot on bugle actually

I can still remember going hunting with my dad when I was 3 and that was 57 years ago. Sitting in a hollowed out brush pile or balancing on a 2x6 8-10 feet up in an oak tree ... with my BB gun in tow. Times have changed and we are much more spoiled with our hunting luxuries ... those times in the woods with our children/grandchildren will leave lasting memories for both parties ...

This is what I did.

This is also what I did and cut the legs off a few times as he grew.

I used the square life preservers you can buy at Academy/Walmart. They are about 2"s thick.

Thanks,
Rich

Kids comfort, or lack there of, will have a positive/negative effect on both of your's hunting adventures.

I sat many an hour on top of an upside down 5 gallon bucket. I doubt my kid would sit there for more than 10 minutes. He likes to sit in my lap, but he is getting too big.

Take them hunting! They are the future of our sport, future of our country!

Bar stool with a back is a good idea. I've planned on cutting a window down about 16" up from the floor for when the kiddo gets bored and wants to play on the floor of the blind. Cover it with clear plexi, lets them look out, but keeps it sealed up. Not a real big window, but something they can peek out of.

Thanks for the tips fellas. The first two seasons he did stay at home with Mama, but this past year he went with me once just because he knew daddy was going hunting. I'll take him more this coming year, and leave the little one home. It's getting fairly close to time for a booster seat for the truck, so I may just see if I can find a cheap one on CL or something that will live at deer camp. Bar stool with a backing is a good idea, but he'd fall out knowing him lol.

I really like the making a little plexi-glass window down low for him to see out of. I have a spare piece of plexi I could put to good use doing this.

Here was his first trip. He lasted right around an hour before he was completely done and wanted to go ride in the buggy.

We had a video camera when my kids were growing up. Id take it and a tripod to the stand and let the kids lay on the floor, turned the view finder down and allowed them to be warm and comfortable while watching the camera. Worked very well for me. When a deer would show up, they would peek above the window and watch. It does require a double blind to work though.

I did the same, it got him up higher and had less moving parts and wheels for him to make noise with

I don't have kids myself but spend a lot of time taking kids hunting through our non-profit TurningPOINT. These kids have physical disabilities and require some adaptation. I have frequently used the plastic booster seat that you find in restaurants. You can usually find them at Restaurant Supply stores and they are typically affordable.
