Had a chance to eat at Myron's Prime Steak House in New Braunfels, TX this week and it was by far the best steak I have ever put in my mouth! (And I have been told I cook a mean steak!) I will be back to Myron"s for sure

Wife and I make a couple trips there a year. Have been going since they opened. The steaks are dry aged and wet aged, according to our waiter. We bring home leftovers that make 2 more meals.

There is a little bar in Blum, TX, between Cleburne and Whitney. They have the best ribeye that i have ever had in my life, no exaggerating here. I grew up around there and still go there at least once whenever I go back to see my folks. This is the only place besides my own house that i will eat a steak.

If you are within a couple hours of this place, it would be worth driving to on a Friday or Saturday night. The wife and I usually split a ribeye because there is no way we would be able to tackle a whole one by ourselves. She make a good chicken fry there too.

Please be advised! This place is the opposite of 5-star. There is smoking inside. But there is a full bar and it is kid friendly. It can be a little intimidating at first, and you are going to be thinking to yourself "WTF is Big Country talking about here? Am i going to have to fight my way out of here?" Relax, you will be ok. Just walk in the front or the side door, seat yourself at an empty table and prepare yourself for the best steak of your life. Also, I am not sure how she does it, but she makes one of the best side salads that i have ever had as well.

Redneck Bar and Grill, Blum , TX.

Oh, speaking of small places, there's a place called Frank's on Hwy-7 between Chilton and Marlin (right before the gas station at the "Y") that serves up a helluva' fine ribeye. You'll know it when you see it. Barn tin building, stacks of wood out front, and a parking lot full of muddy trucks. I believe they're only open Thurs-Saturday.

The Espuella resturante in Dickens Texas has one the best rib eye steaks I've ever eaten. Small town location only open on friday and saturday night. Claim it's 12 oz however it covers most of the plate and the marinate is outstanding and always tender. Every guest I've taken is a ardent advocate.

saddest ribeye I've ever seen. Their sirloin isn't bad and it's 4 times thicker.

Last weekend I had a 16oz ribeye at Longhorn on I-10 and Echo in Houston and 2 days later had a 16 oz Ribeye at the Saltgrass a few blocks East of there. The Longhorn steak was similar in size to the 16 oz ribeyes I normally buy and grill at home. The Saltgrass steak was less than 3/4 thick and no larger around than usual. I think it was more like 10-12 ok. Really a pathetic steak for around $25. Probably been there for my last time.

Last night I had a 16 oz Prime rib from Texas Roadhouse just South of Tomball on 249. It was similar in size to the Longhorn 16 oz, and again similar to the ones I normally buy and grill at home.

I suspect that Landry's is shorting a bit on the ribeyes for Saltgrass.

I don't see the appeal to Saltgrass, if you think the steaks are a joke order a burger from there.

In Houston I like Taste of Texas, have been there many times and have never had a bad steak. Near Longview where I live a little town to the north has 5D Cattle Company and they are one of the best I have ever eaten at.

I ate at the 5D cattle Company in the little town of Avinger, this year while deer hunting. I have to agree that the steaks were good. They were also expensive for a little town out in the middle of nowhere. However, it was a Friday night and they were crowded with people waiting for a seat.

They are probably the best steak i have had in East Texas, but not the best i have ever had. They are pricey. About double what a steak cost at the Redneck Grill in Blum. (See my earlier post). This is where you will find the best steak you have ever had.
