.22-250 or .22 Hornet often used by youth 22-250 is bad sum b! That thing will put the smack down on a deer. Yep. 3 of the 5 deer I killed this year hit the dirt with a 22-250, love that round. So the other 2 ran off? No, a 243 & 25-06 took those two.

Just curious as to why the 6.5 CM is getting a bad name? Ive heard a lot of folks in my circle bad mouthing the CM. I own one but Ive never shot it. Been in the safe since I purchased.
I agree with most above with shot placement is critical. Ive killed deer with 223 before. I helped recover a buck this year shot with a 223(vmax bullet). Buck went 70yds. Kid shot it. Shot was perfect.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

Likely someone that hasn't shot much stuff with one. 6.5 sweede is pretty similar to the creedmore. It has been commonly used to take moose by Europeans for over 100 years.

For common hunting purposes inside of 300 yards, is it really much better than a .270, .308, 7mm-08, 30-06, etc. for deer or pigs? No. Is it lacking compared to any of those rounds? No.

No. This right here. I hate the round because people talk about it like it’s the second comming. All it is, is a short action round that throws a heavy for caliber bullet at a moderate velocity and lighter recoil. It’s not magical or anything. However, as a hunting round it’s fine for deer, hogs and 75% of the game most hunters pursue. Not better or worse than other common calibers

I know yall did'nt go there again. Id do .223 SP any day or year over a belted magnum../. I like.308, 30.06, 270, 280, 45.70 are nice. .308 wins the most reliable everytime, every day, anytime, take it to war, combat, to die beside, however you choose, just be comfortable with it like sittin by a great woman and holding her with no worries.

Back to the 6.5 CM for a moment. Quite honestly, unless you are a long range shooter, there isn’t anything special about the caliber. I think of it as a 270 Lite. 243 pushes a 100 gr bullet to about 3000 FPS. 6.5 CM pushes a 120 gr bullet to 2900. 270 pushes a 130 gr bullet to 3000+. That said, I parked the 270 and switched to the 260, which has identical ballistics to the 6.5CM. It does fine on deer. Lower recoil than the 270.

Remember the 264 belted magnum? Kinda died did'nt it. Sometimes new and trendy is cool and fun, but like the old commons, they just work and they're still easy to find because folks just know practical works just fine. Cheaper too.

The 264 Win Mag was killed by the 7mm Remington mag 3 years after the 264 was introduced. That is one Remington did a good job promoting. All Remington did wass neck the 2644 Win Mag up to 7mm

Here is my take on what constitutes the "worst" calibers for deer hunting: 1) Calibers that do not meet the Game & Fish' minimum required size (where applicable). 2) Calibers that do not meet the Game & Fish' minimum required velocities (where applicable). 3) Calibers that are unlikely to result in a humane kill under your planned hunting conditions. 4) Calibers that make you flinch.
I've killed deer (mix of Coues, mule, axis, whitetail, sika) with 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 X 284 Norma, 270 Win, 308 Win, 30-06, 300 Win Mag, 300 Weatherby Magnum, and 7mm STW. They all worked just fine and have a huge overlap in effectiveness under most hunting conditions. All limitations that I have found were due to the rifle (ex: 20" barrel on my 308 Win), the scope (ex: Vortex Diamondback 3x9 scope on my 30-06) or shooter skill (ex: currently not comfortable taking a shot at an animal past 800 yards).
Cheers.

Not sure there is a bad caliber. Generally speaking, if I do my job, they all generally work. But, you need to match the caliber and bullet to the type of game. Nowadays I only hunt my own land and have lost hard hit deer with a 30-06 on several occasions. Got my Wife a Rem 700 222 a long time ago. She shot some deer and passed it down to Grandson. Over 25 years ago, it's taken a lot of deer and only lost one. But, my favorite is still the butchered 1917 Eddystone 30-06 that has accounted for WT, mule deer, antelope and elk. My goal this year is a hog with my Swede.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP

Friend of a guy I work with had his son shooting a 17 Remington this year. Couldn't understand why the buck and doe he shot just ran away like nothing happened. So I vote 17 Remington.

I miss the days when people just killed deer and had a good time together around the camp fire. When was that? I'm an old man now, and I can remember my dad and his buddies having some serious discussions about calibers, poker, politics, and redheaded women. That was usually at an east Texas deer camp. There weren't a whole lot of deer around then so they really didn't have much else to do.

I’m not sure there really is a bad caliber. I’m more comfortable with certain calibers than others what if you put in the right spot it will kill a deer. My grandpa said when he lived in Georgia back years ago the biggest buck he ever saw killed was with a 22 mag
