So much for the elusive, reclusive Puma concolor.

Brother-in-law sent me this pic taken a bit before daylight a couple of nights ago on the western edge of Kerrville.

Musta figured out that the huntin' is easier close to town!

it was all over the news yesterday here in the Austin area, out in Leander (might have been Cedar Park) where a home surveillance camera captured a mountain lion in a neighborhood subdivision in town walking across their front yard. I'll see if I can find a link ...

edit: Leander TX ... video plays after an ad.

They roam an incredible size territory. It could be down here in a few weeks. That's power right there.

Exactly. I wrote my BIL back and told him that there was every likelihood that, by now, that cat was either almost up here (to Coleman County) or south of Uvalde!

In the Hill Country, the edges of the suburbs often have high concentrations of deer due to lack of hunting pressure, more food and water. The big cats are going where they find the food. Coons around trash cans are another obvious item on the buffet menu.

Doing bird surveys inside of the city limits of Austin, I have found mountain lion tracks, and a partially eaten deer carcass covered in leaves. Deer and now feral pigs are living in the green belts and protected areas. The lion is going where the deer and now feral pigs are.

Due to their hunting area being so large you may not ever get another pic but I sure would have my head on a swivel if I hunted that place.

I'm pretty amazed nobody has got a picture before now - the cats were here before Texas.

The garbage can is very distracting. This picture doesn't count.

HAHA I hear that!
I've seen 2 in my 30 years of hunting around North Texas and have heard 3 others screaming. I too am surprised more aren't captured on camera.

Rustler, it was a joke. Most of us believe they are out there. Most of us have never seen one. Most of us have seen BS photos and heard BS stories, similar to my statement. I have never seen one so I must rely on BS to have any input. smile

Mountain lions roam around till they find a good food source (lots of goats which are easy to catch/ or a high population of deer or hogs) and will stay till the food source or something else causes them to leave. Mountain lions can travel 20 - 30 miles for the next food source. Some of y'all hunters say that the deer hunting this season has been slow and perhaps not seeing much. Could be that a mountain lion may be lurking around your pasture. Lions can push deer off of a ranch during a deer season. The deer will soon return once the lion leaves.

I’ve never seen one that color, only the black ones. But only near large cities!

Thanks, Billy
