Any tips? Climate controlled place with temps of 50 degrees in the winter and 87 in the heat of the summer.


Rooms accessed thru interior hallways and pest control done once a month.

Clean them well before storage.

Cover them in thin plastic sheeting to keep the dust off.

I've made some "trees" that I will hang them on.....4x4 posts cemented in 5 gallon buckets. Should I drape them in plastic or individually wrap them?

As the plastic loses it's smell, will the off gassing process hurt the taxi work?

Yes, don't use plastic. The hides still need to breath, just like you shouldn't store fur coats in plastic garment bags.

I guess the big question is why are you storing them? All of mine are stored where they are displayed. Otherwise they don't get moved. Too much of a chance of having an issue putting them up and taking them down.

Great idea on the sheets. Light plastic sheeting breathes and doesn't attract dust and pests like fabric, though.

Id be real careful about room temps. Ive seen stored stuff like TVs melt. Hard to replace hunt involved memory

That’s why I am using climate controlled. Keep them out of extreme heat.

It’s a pain storing them but the situation dictates I store them for about 8 months. I’ve got a lot invested in the mounts so I need to take the best care possible.

Humidity control is as important as the temperature

I have some of mine in my man cave in my barn - was told to keep temp between 60-80 which I do with a mini split -

Use game bags to cover the mounts. Plastic will acquire humidity causing mold spores. What your trying to do is keep dirt off them. Before you place the bags use a air blower from a distance and clean them off then snug up the game bags. My buddy in Houston (lots of humidity) did his this way for 4 yrs while moving and it worked the best.
