My property was burnt in the PK fires and needless to say, I cut down a lot of dead trees. Wanted to share this piece of equipment, that I feel makes cutting wood easier, and I think safer.

In my pile of stuff, I have a homemade version of that grapple. Another useful tool when messing with cut logs is a timberjack.

We use those all the time to drag trees and telephone poles.

When I got my John Deere with loader, I welded some hooks to the top of the blade. That looks a little more convenient. Where do you get it?

I use a timber jack. It's like a Peavey with a foot. Picks the logs up about 8" off the ground.

Keep in mind with a timber jack you're close to the ground. Watch your toe or you'll spend more time sharpening teeth and squaring your rakers than cutting. I throw the go/no go gauge on my chain about every hour of cutting, even when I'm being careful.
