A broad-band internet company has a landman working our area looking to lease tower sites. Not really wanting to pay much rental. Proposing a barter for free broadband service, etc. For those of us stuck with satellite internet and monthly data limits that bend us over about two weeks into the month, most anything is an improvement BUT a long term contract with internet distribution technology advancing almost at the speed of light? Not too long ago, I lugged a Motorola bag phone around. Served its purpose. I could talk from the pasture to the office. I'm not smart enough to predict where technology will take us in the next 10-15 years but I am smart enough to realize the pitfall of hanging my star on the technology-of-the-day.

Any similar activity in your area? Some of you guys have leases in pretty remote areas. What say?

I couldn't get internet on my place South of Bowie. I don't live there. Then my Wife got me an IPAD. Dang near the same thing. Yeah, there are data limits but it works for me. Signs are going up around the area about getting internet anywhere. No longer need it.

I tried to get them to put in a tower on my place for the free internet deal. They ended up going somewhere else.

I have no idea about internet towers but the cell towers around here are paying around 10K a year plus more if more antennas are added.

I am assuming we’re talking about the same thing here.

Internet towers and not cell towers...

My sister has a friend who has an internet tower on him and she was telling me this but a few months ago.

If I remember right he gets free internet and maybe a couple hundred bucks a month for it.

I thought ones used out in the rural areas where piggy backed on the cell towers? I have seen the short ones in and around towns tho

My sister had to get a tower that’s how she found out.

Her tower is 50’

I know his is taller, but idk how tall. I’d guess 100’

And I do remember it only gave him free service until he hit and certain number of users hitting his tower

How many I don’t know

This is south Wise Co

I'll be, I'm in SW Wise, only have seen 2 towers here, one off 199 and agnes rd and one towards Cottondale, but honestly haven't looked more than those 2 big ones.

I’m in Cottondale

up I guess the one tower will be south of you towards Springtown then, that direction anyway, where I am, I am in the bottom of a gully sts, so even some cell doesn't even work here. Verizon and att pretty reliable here, rest not so much.

I want to say it’s called Vive?

I’ve heard good things, we don’t have it

Had a company we had service with , if you could call it that, a small family owned company, want to put a tower on the west side of my small 100 acre ranchito over in Fayette County years ago before I sold the place. Life time internet they said. We had so much hell with them with our internet up and down, on and off, with there shoddy equipment, told Guy no way. They would see tower on our land, think I had something to do with it, and go to the next pasture and shoot my windows out of the ranch house. .

I live north of Brownwood I use a local company that has really been pretty good until here recently. There are several wireless companies operating in this area now and the service seems to only get worse. Next link is moving into my area. I hope it will be an improvement over what I have now. I spoke to them about being a tower host but I never heard back from them.

Free internet would be nice.
