Seat belts Saves lives... confused2 Then why the heck don't they put seat belts on motorcycles....

Got thrown from truck, it landed on top of me then rolled, Had motorcycle, totaled it in reck hit a pick-up, walked out of emergancy room, no insurance, was back at work building Harvesters next week...

Me daughter bought bike few years back, made me rethink things. like, always stopped for hitchers, or others on side of road, me daughter does it now... at work always told " hog gonna get ya... " huntsolo at night, flash light off slinger pistal on hip... going in thick stuff after a wounded hog & such... bang not the brightest nidea ... Always told wife & kids don't worry bout me, Ya, tis differn't when shoe on d other foot...

We drove thousands of miles ta Grandparents further North as kids, & while living in texas trips ta Minnesota & back, b4 the seat belt laws... Never really gave it much thought... With Grand kids, Hated them being strapped in as little babes, strapped in not being able ta move, Yet, cheers understand the SAFETY reasoning, & as they get older, they instinktively buckle-up...

Tis thinking biggest reason tis insurance.... confused2 Yet chances of walking away from car or truck tis higher than motorcycle, had a straw cowboyhat when wrecked me bike... hammer i still got cheap posts....

You know how I know we're all related? Cuz everybody has that distant relative that was saved by NOT wearing a seatbelt. Turns out it's all the same dude and it only happened one time. Probably don't vaccinate your kids either, amirite? laugh

It would be difficult to tell if seatbelts actually do make us safer.

A comparison of data from before the seat-belt laws to now would need to account for changes in vehicle safety performance, changes in traffic density, miles driven, population size, etc.

I am skeptical; maybe they save the lives mostly of reckless drivers laugh

NH or maybe VT does not require seat belts.

Seatbelts, without a smidge of doubt, save 1,000’s of lives every year. Cars are now designed to crumble around you so your body doesn’t take so Micheal of a hit. Without a seatbelt, you’re thrown and usually die from head injuries.
Wear your seatbelt!!!!

Maybe you should ride out with some first responders. You may see a few things that will change your mind.

Seatbelt saved my life. I was doing about 50, going North on a 4 lane road, in the inside lane. There was a turn lane (suicide lane) between the northbound and southbound lanes. It was dark. A car moved into the suicide lane from thesouthbound lanes but didn’t stop. Just kept coming right into my headlights. I woke up, having been out for a while. There were people all over. My car was destroyed. I hurt all over. Knees had destroyed the lower part of the dashboard. The seatbelt kept me from going into the steering wheel and maybe the windshield.

I wear the seatbelt all the time.

I went through a windshield when I was 10 (1981). 4 of us in a single cab truck. Head on collision.

I wear my seat belt all the time, even when I am just moving my truck in the driveway.

None of us were. 4 of us in a single cab F150. We were stopped at a stop sign and a car coming the other way hit us head on. There were 4 of them in the other car and they were all drunk. They were illegal aliens. It was on a farm road east of San Gabriel, Texas. 1/2 mile from my grandparents farm.
