There was the season I had neck surgery opening morning and couldn’t hunt until 12/31. No wait, I shot twice as many ducks that January as I’ve shot all this season.
There was the season I blew out my back mid December and had surgery in February. No wait, I shot more ducks limping around the first split as I’ve shot all this season.
There was the season I moved to a new part of town and had to learn all new lakes and find new spots. Yep, I shot fewer that season...but I learned a whole bunch too.
Thought for the day: Ducks were almost hunted to extinction long before camo was invented.

It was one of my better ones in years. But had to rotate on almost every occurrence to about 12-14 different spots or so to end up with a handfull of birds. Last year, around x mas, i hunted the same pond 13 days out of 15 days, and shot 4-6 ducks every time. It also helped we had a good coldfront every 2 days. Did not had a skunk hunt so far, will see, 3 days left. The pond im going tomorrow has 5 on it. The one im going sat has 9 and for sunday i like to hunt a couple in the morning and finish up on my PM pond i preserved all year. That one has 16 on it currently, but i need low clouds on sunday afternoon, and that aint gonna happen Expect a big push in this arctic front next week, when season is closed, of course.

Pretty much shut down after Thanksgiving. Hoping the next three days are good. I like to close strong.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

Been a great season. Got home every trip safe & enjoyed nature! That's a winner every time!!I Was reading in the paper last night at a restaurant, that this has been a tough season for most. Sounds like even killing redheads on the coast was tougher. Had to be on X or it was pretty tough.

Every year for the past 3 years at the end of the season I've told myself "well it can only get better next season"...I was wrong.
Hopefully I'm right this time.
I haven't been waterfowl hunting long but my first 5-6 seasons were amazing. The last three have been tough.

Worst season I’ve had ever. I’m about 80 ducks below my season average. Since the split I was skunked 15 out of 21 hunts. Out of those 6 hunts, four times I got only one duck, one hunt I got 3 and one hunt I got a limit. That was on 3 different lakes with lots of scouting and a trip to Kansas. Just too warm up north and too much water around here. I hunted in a T-shirt Christmas Day in Kansas.

This hasn't been the worst ever for me, but worst second split for sure. Usually when the water is up we do really well, and that held true through Thanksgiving. I took a bud on new years day to a spot that I had hunted 3 days Thanksgiving week and shot 3 limits. We only saw 1 duck, and he wasn't interested. I haven't spent the time to go find them as much, but they aren't where they usually are in these conditions.
That said we hunted SW Missouri last weekend and did really well. Mallards everywhere

Been slow for me. Usually these last 3 weeks of the season I am loaded with birds but not this year. Don't have anything on the tanks I can hunt as of this mornings scouting trip. Still going to give it a try in the morning though.
If the trigger is gold, the birds will fold.

I did not hunt the prior 2 season. Season before last my mother was sick and ultimately passed and last year I was building my own home.
This year I was all set to put a hurt on ducks wife was well aware that I was gonna be gone a lot. Well I was I did a lot of scouting. A lot... I just haven't gotten my feet under me I guess. Hopefully it will turn if not I'll be buying a rabbit hound.

Only my 3rd season, but has been the worst. Some due to my poor shooting, some due to no ducks.

Slow for me. Truthfully I didn't hunt hard this year, but my usual high water spots were pretty devoid of vegetation after early in the first split. My thinks receding water after an early flood isn't great habitat.

Worst year I've had since I started chasing ducks in terms of shooting/killing. Good year as I expanded the places I hunt and my buddy got a duck boat. Winning on those fronts.Spent some good times in the blind with great friends. Dog made it through another year no worse for wear. She might have 2-3 seasons left. Anytime I get to spend with her and getting her some retrieves is worth every trip. Can't wait for next season.

Quote: Increasingly over the past couple of decades, more ducks that once wintered in Texas are staying in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska or Missouri. #globalwarming If i would were to be a starting outfitter, I would pick Missouri or Kansas Missouri, along the river, was loaded with ducks this season.

I was going to say something on those lines. Seems as if cold weather has shifted about a month or so later with the freeze line not pushing birds down to us until either the very end or after season. Either way, I’ll be out tomorrow morning for my last hunt and should be tons of birds at my spot with 1.5 week of rest unless someone stumbled upon it.
