Went out hog hunting. Saw hogs. Didn't manage to shoot any.
I've always known that looking through a thermal sight can give a false perspective of distance. I didn't know I'd make such a big error, though
Spotted some hogs that I though were about 80-90 yards away. Looking later at Google Maps I learned they were really 275 yards distant. No wonder I didn't hit any of them, and they didn't even run off that quickly. They just trotted away at a brisk pace. I'm assuming they were pretty large, and hopefully I'll get another shot at them soon. Live and learn …
The outing wasn't a total loss, though. I did manage to shoot a rather large raccoon.
