I'm finally getting around to posting about my dogs some from this year. It was a busy tracking season and I'll be posting some of the highlights.

Back in November we got a call from a local man that had shot a deer and followed blood for about 100 yards then lost it. We brought the dogs out and dumped them out on the first blood and they put their noses down and took off. They began to slow down after 800 yards where we caught up with them. We couldn't see any blood but the dogs were acting excited as if the deer was close. My wife and the hunter saw the deer jump up from under a cedar tree and the dogs took off after him. They ran him a little less than 200 yards and drug him down in a clearing where he expired. The GPS showed the total trail just over 1100 yards. We field dressed the deer to drag it back and the bullet had exploded inside the chest cavity but only damaged one lung. All in all they made short work of it and both dogs did very well picking apart the trail with no blood on the ground for the majority of it.

In most counties in texas now it's legal to use dogs to recover wounded game. If the deer is still alive our dogs will either bay the deer for a follow up shot or will drag them down if they feel like they can.

Awesome, a good blood trailing dog will save a lot of game. Good looking dogs
I have had DD's since 1980, have no idea how many tracks I have done & how much game we recovered that would never have been found except by the buzzards . Forrest
