I have an old metal barrel feeder that has developed pinhole rust holes in it. Is there any type of paint or sealant that can be used on it to salvage it? Or do I just need a new barrel and rebuild?

New barrel! Don't barrels cost about $20? I've found some at places that coat buildings and do spray foam for dirt cheap.

get some travel trailer roof paint ... it has some type of fiber in it and works well. Bed liner should work too. but by the time you buy the materials to paint/coat, you can buy a new barrel and transfer the components over to it for about the same price.

Way ahead to just pick up a new barrel. The cost of materials will probably cost you more than a new barrel and you will still continue to have problems from now on. Not that much of a job to set up a new barrel.

Only reason I am thinking of repair is I am not sure how well the bolts will undo...

If there are not too many holes you could put sheet metal screws in the holes. Flex seal will work.

I have always built my own feeders. Partly because I know the quality of the components used and partly because of the sense of accomplishment i get from doing it myself. (Mostly because I'm cheap). I just replaced a barrel this year on a 20 year old feeder. It's really fairly easy and not expensive to do. Good luck with yours.

There's only 2 seasons in a year. Deer season and getting ready for deer season.
