Hey I’ve looked and looked and I can’t figure out the best answer to my question. Here it is, I’m going to get into a thermal in the the next few weeks but my big dilemma is I work 40 hours a week at my m-f job and I do hot shots on the weekends and I have a 17 month old son and wife. I say that to lead to this, I have a hard time sticking to a price range I can live with. I can afford the trijicons but it isn’t justified with me using it once or twice a month. Anyone have this conversation with them self? How did you set your self a budget to stick with? Or to beat a dead horse, what’s the “right” thermal scope for a part timer? Hunting our 160 acres can range from 20 yard shot to 250 yard shot. Bells and whistles are put aside for clarity and how able it is I do know that. It’s a hard question to answer for someone else I understand just looking for input, my steering wheel isnt giving me much advice

Kinda went through this recently myself. Between myself and a friends we are messing with the Pulsar APEX and the Trijicon.

My opinion with minimal not even sure it’s right , is I would choose the Pulsar again

Big props to all the players and Saleman on the THF as they were all honest and up front. Outdoor Legacy and Nighvision Outfitters

Been shopping on outdoor legacy’s page for a few weeks now and if there wasn’t any local dealers I’d go through them, not sure where they are located

Thanks Brother-in-Law! EasyMoney, I'm located Nacogdoches County and my warehouse is in Fort Worth.

Why don't you give me a call one day and let's talk it out. No pressure to buy, no sales pitches, no nothing, just advice.

In short, without typing a novel, you've got to decide what your budget is and then buy the best scope for your needs/wants within that budget. Honestly, the choices aren't near as wide and complicated as they seem. I can normally hear some details of what you're wanting to do, ask a few questions, find out what your budget is and then have a good idea of 1 or 2 scopes that are right for you. We can hash those out and then you can go do some research on your own.

The other thing you need to decide is, are you ready to buy now or do you want to wait and see what new scopes are coming out this year? I don't like telling people to hold off buying because a lot of new scopes that are announced in 2 weeks at the SHOT Show won't actually ship for 6+ months but if you are in no hurry, it might be worth at least waiting to see what's new and exciting and see if it is something you're interested in. If you've already done your research, you can have an idea of exactly what scope you think you want that's currently available and then you know what to be looking for when the new optics are announced. You can skim over the scopes that aren't within the criteria that you've already set.

HansETX and I will be at SHOT and giving updates on the new thermals and NV via our podcast and YouTube channel, The Late Night Vision Show. Once we're back we could talk again and I could offer up my thoughts on the new optics that were announced.

That's just my 2 cents! Don't hesitate to call me anytime.

- Jason

I bought my XQ50, MDVR, Suppressor, RFB Rifle and Thermal Monocular for less than you'll spend on that Trijicon. For 160 acres, it should be a no-brainer.

Kel-Tec RFB + Griffin Sportsman Ultra Light 300 + Pulsar Apex XQ-50
M&P-10 + AAC Cyclone
Remy 700 + Leupold VX3 3.5x10x50 CDS

I've only looked through a XQ50 Trail, but can't imagine needing anything more. Completely happy with mine. Furthest try and kill was a 190yd racoon.. DRT..

I've never regretted spending a couple thousand more to get the best. I have a Pulsar XD50A and a Mark 2....I don't even use the Pulsar anymore. No matter which one you get, get a 640 resolution.

MDMORROW is a member on here and sells them, he’s practically your neighbor being located in Grayson County also. He’s the best you can deal with

I too had your dilemma about usage. I started with Pulsar RXQ30V. Loved it and really enjoyed using. Then it had a green line running across top. I called Jason to see what his opinion was. I had bought it off of Amazon. He said send it in, it will be fixed free of charge, and walked me through what to say and do. We talked for a while and he didnt try to sell me one thing, but answered ALOT of questions. I now own 2 Apex38's and couldn't be happier. The reason: Jason and his honesty about what's what. Wont buy from anyone else and he didnt sell me a thing......LOL. Local or not, he had my stuff to me next day.

Here is a pic from my Echo 1 Sig thermal sight at a small buck at 200 yards. I paid less than 1k for it, it is not the best on the market, but it does fit my needs.

Here is a 2/3 silhouette at 100 yards.

Here is the AW-139 I work on at about 40 yards.

Thanks for the mentions guys. I'm glad to visit as well and yes I'm in Grayson county. Well I live in McKinney but I have a little bit of land by Hagerman. I have a range there on one of my farms where we demo thermal at night from time to time. Generally speaking figure out what a comfortable budget is and buy the best you can within that budget. For what you mentioned I like Pulsar XP but without knowing comfort level on funds I can't really say for sure. Feel free to reach out and would be glad to show you some stuff sometime. If you're already working with Jason thats great also. Not looking to step on any toes. He's a good guy also.
