Probably going to settle in in vicinity of Ellis/Tarrant County. Looking for a nice place to hunt and fish, but also potentially build a house and settle on. That said, the price of land in that area is pretty doggone high.
Any ideas where to go? Or maybe a good area to look at a lease to hunt on temporarily. If I can't do it in that area, how far must I travel to find it at a price a working stiff can afford?

What is your budget for house and land? I am 100 miles out and it is $3,000 an acre for pasture land. No cover is less but no hunting.

I would like to get 20 acres or more, with a tank. Ideally under $100,000 and at least under $200,000 for a piece of property. I am not looking for something with a house on it and etc, just a little piece of freedom. Doesn't need to be perfect, but would be nice if it has a tank on it that generally fills up most every year other than during a draught. Land with homes on it like I want seems to be about a half million dollars, can't do that right now because my wife is going to UTA and we'll be renting in or near Arlington. Might just buy a house there and put the land on the backburner until she finishes, sell and start over.

Here is one source out of many, enter your particulars in the appropriate boxes. This allows you to search any county or region even properties near many cities. ---> Lands of Tx <--- I'd always search for a little more land and at a slightly higher price, like set max at 100 acres, price range $120,000 or up to $240,000 to begin with. Narrow it down when you find a county or area that interests you.
