I've bought several without difficulty. A lot depends on where you buy. Buying used anything on eBay, you get a marginal deal maybe one in seven or eight times, but you save enough the other six or seven times to make it worth it. I try to take the long view on these kinds of deals.

i see many older scopes for sale for only relatively smaller amounts from the current price. There’s one in the classifieds right now that’s overpriced. If you watch a few websites you can beat EBay on a lightly used scopes. I have bought a few on the internet used.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

I've seen and gotten some great deals on Scopelist.com. You just have to check frequently.
Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

I bought a used scope off ebay at a great price. Sure enough, the scope had an issue. The mfg had a lifetime warranty, so I sent it in for repairs. Two weeks later they send me a brand new scope. I don't mind buying used if I know what the mfg warranty policy is.

Buy something built by a company with a good warranty and you have zero concerns. Vortex, Nightforce, S&B, Steiner, etc. are all going to take care of you even if you weren't the original purchaser. Minox has gone out of their way to define different warranties for second-hand buyers, and their warranty return process takes 2-4 months. Some other companies like Delta don't even have services set up in the US yet.
So all in all, it depends, but buying from a big-name US-based company should limit your risk. Buying used saves a ton.

Buying used doesn’t phase me IF I’m buying from an active forum member. Outside of that I would have to do some serious research. Reputable name brand scopes with great warranties on eBay does you no good if it’s a fake when you receive it.

Never had a problem, after buying several used.
Plus, when you bought a good one, it comes with a warranty. If it arrives broken, send it in.

You have to make sure the company making the optic has a lifetime transferable warranty. If not the 2nd hand buyer won't have coverage. For instance, Leica does not offer one, it's warranted to the original owner only. Zeiss and Swaros is transferable. Gotta check the written warranty to be sure.

I bought a used Leupold VX6, 3-18 x 50 mm. At the time it retailed for about $1300.00. Was like six months old, with the box, all the paper work and still had a CDS dial coming. We met a range and he let me shoot the gun it was on. I did a box test. It passed and I gave him $600.00 before he changed his mind. So, if you don't know the seller, or it's not from this forum see if they'll meet you at a range. If you can't work that out I wouldn't hesitate if it has the warranty as mentioned above.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I have bought a few NF, S&B, March and Leupold. So far knock on wood all have been as advertised.

Had many good experiences. Bought a rifle that came with a Minox hunting scope that was toast, but Minox replaced it free of charge with a newer Model.
Snipershide is the best resource on used high end scopes on the internet. Not exaggerating.
