Looking at getting another ar in 6.8.
I think I have it narrowed down to a rock river or yankee hil. Both are right around $1500, can't find anything cheaper that I'd trust, I'm sure I missed a lot of brands though.

Which brand would you go with?

I’m in same boat, looking for another 6.8 since I sold my last one.

Barrett makes one in that price range too, Interested to see peoples opinions.

You can get a La Rue ultimate upper kit for $799. It comes with everything you need except the receiver which you can get for 200.00.

Quality parts and light weight. If you didn't want to assemble it you could get it done for a couple hundred bucks or less. I just won the kit in their monthly drawing. Check it out before you buy. up

In this market I would not pay $1500 for a new rifle. I’d post up in the classifieds WTB 6.8 AR and watch the offers roll in. There are a lot of people out there wanting to unload thier ARs right now.

If you still want new I’d build one with top tier parts for cheaper than that.

Neither Rock River or YHM are top tier ARs.

The Yankee Hill is good. I have a Wilson Combat in 6.8 and it is a good dependable gun.

I’d do the WTB ad on the classifieds if I was looking for one. Something properly assembled with an ARPerformance, Wilson Combat, White oak or Bison barrel should shoot well.

Or You could get a brand new upper for $750ish, build your own lower with a nice trigger for $500 or less. It’s not hard. A guy could build a nice complete AR for $1200 with a good barrel, trigger and handguard

Complete uppers can be purchased from Wilson combat, white oak, Craddock Precision, Blackstone Arms, Bison

That said for a complete factory gun RRA should be good, Wilson Combat also. And I’d imagine anything Barrett makes would be good to go

For sure neither of those 6.8’s listed at that $1500

I just did the price list below using very nice proven parts. The prices are accurate and recent. A few you can buy bubba and booger picker parts and cheapen it up but I refuse to build off “cheap” parts.
Doing below will get you a dang nice upper.

Stripped upper - $120
ARP Barrel - $200
ARP complete bcg with headspaced bolt-$170
Gas tube - $15
Handguard- $200
Muzzle device - $10-100
SLR gas block- $120
Charging handle-$ 10-90
Rifle Gear upper build labor $50

ARP, BISON, and Wilson barrels

I looked at builders using ARP and Bison but I didn’t want an Aero stripped receiver for my build

For that money you could buy better than those two brands....Seekins, JP, Daniel Defense, Christensen, etc.

Guys have already told us that though.

Hell for $1500 dollars I’d probably sell you my CMMG MK3 CBR 308. Mid Tier, but best MK3 CMMG makes.

Here's the deal, I don't know what I'm doing to do a build. Idk this from that.

Would not buy a RR unless it has a stainless barrel. RR failed us tremendously and we have since ditched every single one on the department. They had terrible throat erosion after 1000-1500 rounds. RR said we were shooting the wrong ammo and failed to make things right rolleyes

I think there is a guy on here that goes by Blackstone Arms that builds 6.8 ARs with premo parts and is very knowledgeable. Might want to reach out to him and sure he could give you some advice.

Theres a brand new Daniel Defense Ambush w/18" barrel and Geissele trigger for sale on Gunbroker for $1350. Hard to beat.

Love my LWRC 6.8 SPR but a tad outta your price range. A few used on GB for $1600-1700. Barret makes a nice one as well if you look hard you can find their DI 6.8 for $1400.

Thank you Sir

I'll help you get what you need/want rather I build it or you get it somewhere else, just give me a call. I agree with someone earlier saying go with an ARP barrel.

The 6.8 is the #1 choice for hunting deer and hogs in an AR15

I have an RRA Coyote Carbine in 6.8 and really love it. It will shoot 3/4MOA with box ammo (5 shots). I don't run it hard or shoot it a ton; I am disappointed to see BP's post above about throat erosion and that they wouldn't make it right. If more research showed similar stories I'd stay away. I also have an RRA ATH in .223 Wylde and it's more accurate than the 6.8. It has a stainless barrel.

Barrel, trigger, free float handguard and good ammo (and reliable optics of course) are the most important thing for accuracy.

I have owned quite a few 6.8s and have two.. on complete Wilson Combat and one built. Both run the 16" Wilson Combat lightweight barrel.
Had ARPs as well, good 6.8 barrels.

If you have to buy one that is built I would go Wilson combat. They are very pricey but very nice and worth the price.

But if you want the perfect 6.8 for about $1500 then you purchase an upper from Blackstone Arms. He will build it any way you want and then build your own lower. You dont need any tools and a lower is easy to put together. Get the Geiselle trigger of your choice and the exact stock you want. I would also get a geiselle charging handle. Save the rest for a nightforce on top and ammo.

You get less when you buy a fully built rifle as opposed to putting it together yourself. The hard part in building a rifle is the upper and Blackstone has dozens if not hundreds of AR68's [Linked Image]
sold on this site alone. Mine is a tack driver. It is sub MOA but unfortunately I am not. LOL
