With ducks now being almost nonexistent on the coast I made a trip back north Saturday to the timber hole I found a month ago. It may not have been a fast and furious limit, hell it was only one bird, but it was my most fulfilling hunt of the season. Retta and I managed to bag our first mallard of the season, a big beautiful mature drake that knew he was headed to that hole. He joined the two woodies I shot there a month ago for my first attempt at duck a l'orange using my new sous vide cooker. They came out as one of the best duck meals I've ever had. Here's to hoping I can bag another mallard or two before the season ends and best of luck to all!

Thank you much! She's actually a fox red lab. Beautiful dog and boy does she love to get ducks!

Sous vide is the way to go. Hardly ever cook them any different anymore.
