Rust bluing

Wondering if any of you have tried it and if so liked the out come of it and is there any other method of blueing thats holds up better to holster wear such as salt bluing,cold bluing ect. Never liked the out come on my end of the cold blue out of the bottle and on the metal of corse with preping done and all.

All I do is slow rust blue. We did a test in gunsmithing school where we blued several pieces of metal via different methods, then rubbed them with scotch brite until white steel was revealed. Slow rust blue was the winner. We didn’t test corrosion resistance but I’ve heard slow rust blue wins as well.
With any bluing job metal polish and degreasing prior to blue is extremely important.
The good thing about slow rust blue is it’s cheap to do, just time consuming. All you need is a tank to boil distilled water that big enough to hold your parts. For a while I used a tank with two water heater elements screwed into each side. It took a long time to boil but did the job.
