After 8 mos. dealing with insurance, drs., and therapy which was a big waste of time. Finally getting it done Wednesday. What can I expect? What was your recovery time?

Thanks,
Jim

My dad had his hip replaced about 6 months ago now at the age of 82. They went in from the front of the hip, which they say offers the quickest recovery. He had to learn how to get up and down from seated position as well as laying down, and how to go up and down stairs so as not to throw the joint out of place while it healed. There wasn't near as much physical therapy as there is with knee replacements, and he was encouraged to walk as much as he could, as often as he could. He managed to graduate from the walker to a cane after 2 1/2 weeks, and was mowing his yard with a push mower at 6 weeks. The recovery is much quicker than TKR's as well.

Good luck Jim.

My dad had it done at 56. Said he had the hip of an 85 yo. He could barely walk. He said it hurt like hell, and the PT was painful as hell. The GREAT part is now he is better than ever and is kicking himself for not doing it sooner. He was out jogging 5 miles a day this summer. Get through the rehab and you'll be good to go. Prayers sent sir.

I have had both knees and one hip replaced. The knees were at different times about a year and a half apart . Had hip done in April of 2016. I was to the point of barely being able to walk. I had immediate relief when they replaced my hip. The therapy and recovery were a breeze compared to the knees. They cautioned me I was doing too much too soon after my hip. It helped me tremendously. I was 60 when I had the hip surgery.

My mom had hers done last year. She was back up in no time. She was mad that she waited so long to do it. She is about to have her other one done in a few days.
