Saw where the, I think it was Land Commissioner in New Mexico banned coyote hunting contests that were taking place on public lands. The way I took it, you could still hunt coyotes on public land, but no contests could take place. Stock owners could still protect their livestock and all of that, but no contests. Anybody that knows more than I do about this (which won't take much) chime in and fill us in. I saw this on an announcement on Facebook. The only animal the woman mentioned was coyotes, but it could pertain to any and all contests for different predatory animals.

I’ve heard of people fearing this would happen since they started introducing wolves. Not sure what kind but I think I heard Mexican Gray, maybe?

Yes it’s true because my son was hunting a contest next weekend out of Artesia,NM and it’s been cancelled.
He said the newly elected Liberal commissioner made this decision. I have seen protesters twice line the roads in Las Cruces to protest predator hunting even when there was NO Contest.
Contests are getting more and more scrutiny here in Texas as well...... every time you see a Beto (Robert Francis )bumper sticker it’s a reminder of how many folks have moved to Texas with the California mindset.

I just saw an article about reds in TX that makes me wonder if these “discoveries” will affect the contests here.
