First dove hunt of the season in 2017 Kimber ripped her armpit open chasing a wounded dove through a fence...
Cleaned and stapled it also
Sucks

Ouch. When Bonnie was a year old pup she caught a Barbwire fence in the mouth at full speed. She’s never hit another one.

I had a male rip half the sheath of his pecker running through a fence one time. That was one I took to a vet to fix. Same dog pointed a covey on the way back to the truck after hitting a porcupine later in the season.

I had one of my dogs rip his arm open on barbed wire. It was about 3 inches long. I took it to the vet to have it stapled. The next day my dog tore the staples out. I decided to redo it myself. I found out that it is bad to push the stapler into the dog. One of the staples caught meat.

I have a short hair that refuses to slow down going through barbed wire. I have sewn and stapled that dog numerous times. If I took him to the vet every time he needed mending I would be broke.

Yep, had a English Pointer open his artery on his front left leg first day of quail season. Off to vet to have it stitched up and we were done for the weekend.

His older brother is carrying plenty of scares from similar activities! Luckily we've avoided any deep cuts thus far, and the majority of his are top side. Case doesn't have much of a filter for fences, and when we're out hunting he doesn't let them slow him down much. He's a little heavier coated then cricket, which I think does help, but he's got a couple good gouges along his back that are healing at the moment.

We have been getting after the birds pretty hard so far this year though. We are headed east right now to see if we can get into some woodcock.

My Brittany got in to barbed wire 3 years ago. Took 18 feet of sutures. I can't figure out how to post the photo.

The stapler is your friend.
Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill
