Long time lurker, first time posted in the food forum here. The introduction to family life a few years back slowed my hunting, so I fill the space with cooking.

Might have to get back into competition BBQ

Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill

Never could like competition bbq. Cook the worst excuse of a brisket I have ever made, ashamed to turn it in and place. Next go around cook a damn fine classic brisket and not even make the final table. I think the only way I'd cook bbq cookoffs again is if they were judged by people who know something about bbq and not just whoever they can drag out of the crowd to do it.

sanctioned events is the key, one ones they pull random people to judge are not worth the time
