Don't think I have ever posted pics from a pen bird hunt (desperate times call for desperate measures I guess), but I had a trip to Baylor county that got cancelled (combo of not enough birds and too muddy to get back to the pasture that the rancher thought might have enough birds to get a half day hunt out of), so I picked up some pen raised birds and setup a little two hour hunt. Weather was great and took my nice camera and let my sons shoot. Might do one more S Texas hunt end of Jan, but thats become iffy as well.
Anyway - dogs had fun and got to stretch their legs

RustBucket - thats her in the second pic. She is doing well. She has placed in both her NSTRA trials (a 2nd and a 3rd) she has run in, now out of the amateur ranks so will see how she does in next month's trial. Won't back a snub tailed dog (a brittany or GSP), little crazy so need to work on that but definitely doing well for a two year old.

Excellent pictures.
I'm sure the dogs loved getting out.

If our pastures will get dry for a few days, I'm going to be doing the same thing.

Thanks for posting the great pictures! Those are some good looking dogs.
You've got to keep the dogs, and the younger hunters, on enough birds to keep them engaged... and this year just isn't cutting it.

I think "desperate times call for desperate measures" is a good summary. We did the same thing on Sunday. A bunch of finds made for some very happy dogs. I don't think the dogs know any different.
