We have an 8 pointer that has 5 drops and a few kickers and splits for a total of 16 points, we call him an 8 pointer. Nice 10 pointer

That’s how I look at it too when I’m on a management hunt, killed a crappy 8 but he had matching drops and split brows. Only an 8 though!

Ok, I didn't know that! I've always thought a point was a point. Everyone is different. Anything over 1” is a point to me. When scoring my deer I don’t deduct inches and call him by his gross score. I figure if he grew it he gets credit for it but like I said everybody is different. Nice buck Cody

Ok, I didn't know that! I've always thought a point was a point. That's the way I look at it too. I believe the difference comes from Typical vs. non-typical. typical you only count the main branches. g1, g2, g3, etc. Non-typical you count all the points. In the case of the deer above, he would be a typical 10 or non -typical 11. Can someone with more knowledge concur?

Very nice buck but are you sure he will get into the 170's?? I will admit I have never killed a 170, but I am having a hard time getting him there. Maybe I am underestimating his mass but I am having a hard time even getting him to break 160.

I’m seeing around 155-160 doesn’t look to have the main beam length to reach 170, but I’m far from an expert. Good luck to your hunters Cody!

Nice buck. How many points did you count and put down on the score sheet, 10 or 11?
