I just wanted to notify all my fellow THF friends that get prepared for next fall when Diesel prices may shoot up for 6-12 months while suppliers adjust to the new laws hitting next January. I am in a related business that I visit with refiners and was having dinner(supper to us Southern folks) with 3 different supply guys and they all agreed that Diesel could be volatile starting next Fall and way into next year.... they speculated price would jump 1.00 per gallon but that was just a guess.
If you have not already heard about it this will explain if you care to read....

Sucks if the prices climb! Not sure what I’m supposed to do about it though!

Mines paid for. Don’t care where the price goes.

Mine is paid for, gets 30 mpg on the hwy and thanks to Ram doing some shady stuff with the emissions system looks like I will get about a $3000 check in the mail at some point. If diesel takes a big jump in price compared to gas im not sure what I will do. Due to the great economy it still more than breaks even at current prices, guess we will just have to see.

Should we invest in diesel future s?

No one knows exactly how bad it will be. They do know there will be a higher demand for diesel and lot of the rest depends on how people react.
If ammo and powder shortages are any indicator then it may get ugly quick.
I have heard predictions as high as 10 dollar diesel but honestly know one knows for sure.
I know that if I had a diesel that I really didn’t need and could make a switch over to gas I would do it now because the value will drop for about a year as no one is going to buy them unless it’s a necessity

I'm sure the same people who believe diesel will hit $10/gallon were at the fuel pumps after Hurricane Harvey filling their trash cans up......

If diesel hits 10/gallon, we are all gonna be in trouble regardless of what we drive. Shipping costs would make all prices go out the roof if that were the case, and everything and everyone would be affected.

If you really believe 10/gal deisel, then you better get started with your prepping plans now with full garden, animals caged in the pasture and off grid systems in place. Could get real ugly at those prices ....

Please explain! Is this only for the ecodiesel?

Ultra low sulfur diesel fuels are already a low quality fuel. This one will likely be worse. I know the Alon refinery in Big Spring has to add back a lubricity additive to refined ultra low sulfur diesel already.

The company I retired from stopped buying light and medium duty trucks with diesel engines several years ago, they buy semi tractors with either liquid or compressed natural gas diesel engines.

So did my company. Nothing but problems. Flip side is.... the few diesel tractors we have with PACCAR engines are even worse

Not to mention all the diesel burning equipment required to provide food and fiber for everyone. Burning $3.00 a gallon diesel in tractors, harvesters, strippers, etc. leaves little margin for profit as it is. At $10.00 a gallon not many of us could stay in business.

Was there a price hike for diesel back in '07-'08 whenever it was that we went to the current LSD from what we had before? I would suspect the production cost increase would be similar.

Diesel hit $4.95 a gall back then. It really sucked.

Was that due to the change in fuel standard or the hurricane? I remember paying $4.25 a gal for regular around then also, but didn't own a diesel pickup then.

I remember that. It cost me over $150 to fill up and I was at that time filling up daily.
