Hunted Friday, Saturday, Sunday and put Mallards, Widgeons, Gadwall, Teal, Speckled Belly, Richardson's Goose, and Ringneck on the tailgate! Heck of a weekend by anyones standards with good birds and great company. On Saturday morning we were sitting on the fence line of a large wheat field with the sun to our backs watching several thousand birds work out in front of us piling up in various spots way past our shooting range. Well we had a double swing wide circling to land on a group forming a couple hundred yards out on the wheat. We hunkered down as they were coming in to buzz overtop of us, shot both birds, I thought they were pintails and one kinda glided crashing a pretty good ways away into a flooded section of field. We let em lie for a while hoping more birds would swing wide over us but after 30 minutes or so the skies emptied of birds as they all seemed to be momentarily happy with grazing where they were. I got up to let my feet warm up and to go grab those birds while my buddies grabbed some that fell in another direction. I came up on the first bird and it was a mallard drake, which kinda confused me since I know I had seen pintail feathers on at least one of the birds. I kept going and when I got to the other bird, wouldn't ya know it, it was a freakin MALLARD/PINTAIL HYBRID!!!!!!! This day we shot the least birds out of all of this weekends hunts but it ended up being the most special to me. Now I just gotta figure out who's gonna mount it and how I want it done! Sorry for the long read but I'm still pumped!! [Linked Image]

Congrats on the bird, it'll make a great mount. Call Pat @ Avian Arts...that's who you want to mount it.

A great find and beautiful bird. Shot one I have mounted on my wall about 15 years ago except mine had more green tint to the head.
