Anybody ever heard of Quinoa? It is supposed to real good for you. Is in regular grocery stores?

Just another yuppie food. Eat it with your kale.

It's a means to an end. It has a complete protein profile which most plant sources do not which is important in a vegetarian diet not so much if you eat meat. It's making it's way into the mainstream market so it's readily available in large supermarkets.

Had some at a friends house recently and it isn't bad. Bought some at Walmart and have had for a few meals. Used itin some dishes instead of rice

It’s a decent substitute, but high in carbs. Seems to process through the body like corn does. Taste good when used in place of something else in a dish.

Thanks for the feedback! I wanted to see if anyone ate it and how you prepared it. I'm sure not a yuppie, vegetarian, vegan, or on a gluten free diet. I stumbled onto it looking for something else and wondered how I never had heard of it, I guess because I do eat an almost healthy diet. Even at 63, I do still work out and try to eat a lot of protein and healthier carbs, without going all out nutty about it.

You know how internet searches are. A Google search for the best way to prepare venison could find a post on a diabetes forum. Periodically I do a search for any new supplements or diet discoveries that might be good for Tinnitis. And with that search I did land on a forum where Quinoa was used by diabetics, health nuts, and was touted as something very good for you. I figured I might just give it a try---if it is fit to eat.

We eat it often and we use chicken broth to cook with it.

One of our favorite ways to eat is to cook it, add cooked chicken breasts, drained can of black beans, enchilada sauce, sauteed onions, diced tomatoes and fold in diced avocado.

I don’t eat food that sounds like karate words.....

Quinoa is simply a New World pseudocereal that got forgotten as the native inhabitants adopted a westernized diet.

It is traditionally eaten by peoples such as the Inca in South America.
It grows under very narrow conditions, high altitude, certain soil type. Because of this there are few locations where it grows well enough to be profitable. With the New Age eaters discovering it as the new super food the farmers/wholesalers in South America are selling it in the USA and those who ate it traditionally cannot afford to buy.

Ditto on cooking it in chicken broth. It made a world of difference in flavor to me when we first started using it about 6 years ago.

It may be a yuppie food now but I first ate Kale in the 60's and also Kohlrabi. One of my aunts married a Polish man and their garden looked really strange the first time I saw it. I would say 90% or better of what they ate they grew them selves or got thru the CO-OP.

I completely forgot to pick some up over the weekend. And come to think about it, I've read that there may be a few to choose from.

What color are ya'll mostly eating? And where in the stores do you find it? If it's near sushi I'm out.

made some the other day, boned and cutup some chicken 4 chicken thighs boiled then in a shiner beer, onions, garlic and some Mrs Dash. Once done added 3/4 cup white Quinoa and turned down to just boiling until most liquid asorbed and Quinoa was tender. turned out pretty good.

I get mine at Walmart it is close to the rice. They have white and red

similar to rice. Costco sells fresh quinoa salad that is pretty tasty.

We have been eating quinoa in place of rice for about 8 years. We buy the HEB brand and cook it in "Better Than Bouilon" chicken base. My kids love it.
