My next rifle scope purchase will have durability as #1 on the requirement list. Holding zero when subjected to periods of vibration and an unintended indirect hard movement now and then is what I'm talking about. The set up will spend a lot of time here, in these very solid, heavy duty Kolpin mounts (these are great BTW). I've seen the frozen in a block of ice shotgun blast drive a nail and still hold zero video on the NF site.

The price point of the SHV is where I'm at. Does this line have the same features as their top tier scopes as it relates to durability?

I sure wish I could say. I have yet to have one in my posession for a few months on end.

I’m considering a SHV for my next scope. I can’t imagine NF putting their name on something that doesn’t live up to their reputation.

The only SHVs I've run have been the 3-10s. Both were on LW packing rigs and saw lots of 4 wheeler, floorboard and pack time. Never had an issue with POI shifts, RTZ and tracking.

3 different instances where the butt was knocked out of the gunbearer on my Kifaru pack and the gun ended up in the rocks, one sliding down a rock chute about 20 yards with a couple cart wheels involved. Scopes were mounted in Burris Sig XTRs and never moved.

If they simply would put a MIL reticle in that scope, I'd still have them.

That's good info. I went another direction and have since put the rig together. A Tikka lite in 6.5 Creedmoor with Leupold VX3-i, 3.5-10 x40mm. My need for a light weight rifle that I'll be carrying all day went ahead of something that will be on my ATV.

Sounds like a nice rig, those Tikkas flat shoot....

I never had a problem packing the extra 6-8ozs all day or many miles with a loaded pack. The trade off for rock solid durability and knowing it'll work far outweighs the alternative. YMMV.....

I hear you. My needs changed, some of the NF SHV characteristics would have been under utilized and a waste of $ for what I'll be doing. I found this Leupold for a good price.

I've got an SHV, NXS and ATACR, so I've been able to compare all three side by side. Glass is about the same but I definitely like the dials better on the ATACR. But if it's a hunting rig, that probably won't come into play very often. I've had the SHV on a 308 AR, a lightweight 7 mag, and it's currently on my 260 CTR. Never had an issue with it holding zero. Using the 0 MOA factory base on the CTR, I took the setup out to 1000 yards before I ran out of adjustment on the scope.

Here's you Huckleberry, now, if your gonna treat it like an "Operator" step up to NXS or ATACR, Or if your Jason and use your rifle to deive fence posts while not shooting the chit out of them.

I like rifles and scopes that keep up. I get scratched, and so do they.

Good call on the SHV. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in the reliability or the feature set of this optic. I have owned SHV, NXS, and now on my second ATACR. While I like the features of the ATACR the best, from a reliability standpoint they’ve all been the same. They’ve all been beat up pretty good, and gone hundreds of miles bouncing around in the back of a Polaris. Never had an issue. I have told a lot of people that if you don’t have ATACR money, skip the NXS, buy the SHV, and spend the rest on ammo.

I don’t mistreat my equipment, but it does get used. If all you do is pnssy foot around, I guess there’s no need to invest in overbuilt equipment. Get a Swarovski that you can finger bang at the range and brag about the glass quality.

I have a Myriad of good scopes and some lower grade ones too. Swarovski's, Steiner, Leupold and Nightforce make up the biggest percentage of my optics. On the Huskemaw, I was just wondering what first hand experiences anyone here might have had with them. The guys I was with claimed to really like them but did not really elaborate on them when asked. I'm sure it was one of those situations where they were the very best because they owned them, kind of like a person owning a particular brand of vehicle.

I have the SHV on my main hunting rifle for the last 4 years now, it has been dropped, bounced, bumped, in and out of vehicles, on stands up and down ladders etc... got some good scratches on it. Still at Zero always....

I really like the eye relief on it the best of any scope i have had in a while...you can get with in about 4-6 inches of your eyes and still acquire a target (if you like to spot and stalk like i do)...
Just my 2 cents...I’m not much of a target shooter i will let the Professionals weigh in on that part.
