I want to make an antler mount like this. Most of the process is easy but I like the hide like this one. My question is, how do I prepare the hide? Does it need to be fully tanned or can I dry it out with some borax?

I have done some just using salt that turnd out and the hair is still on 10+ years later

Did you tack it down & salt it & let it dry out beforehand or salt it then put it straight on?

Don't want to hijack the thread but I have a few that I just left outside for a month or so after cleaning up the obvious meat and stuff and have had no problems after bringing inside to sit on the entertainment center. I've been wanting to mount some old horns like that. How do you attach the skull cap to the board?
